1988 Ford Thunderbird LX review from North America
"{{{The Wind Beneath My Wings}}}"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
After 1st year ownership, defective struts, leaking window gaskets & defective am/FM cassette radio - (however, all were covered under warranty= a relief).
Few years later, an "0" Ring Motor job was done for fouling spark plug.
Catalytic converter had to be replaced.
Last year, **Transmission was rebuilt.
Defective electric right window motor
was replaced. Both left & right electric door lock actuators had to be replaced.
Heater core clogged--did an acid flush & now get some adequate heat.
Dash is cracking and headlight casings were always hazy.
Problems with fuel vapors even after ELFIN was cleaned.
Only get 16 m/p/g versus former 19-21 m/p/g. Thunderbird sputters at 40-50mph.
General comments?
Overall, even with all mechanical problems...1988 Thunder bird LX is a fully-loaded options "Dream Riding Car" with its road handling integrity & ultra-comfortable interior.
Later model Thunderbirds just don't come close to its sleek design, fully loaded features; nor interior design!!
**Sadly, I had hit a deer & it might be totaled out by insurance co. But I will fight for it!!!
