2002 Volkswagen Cabrio review from North America
"Pretty, but not worth the price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I leased this car, it was brand-new. With only a few thousand miles on it, I noticed that pumping gas was becoming problematic. The gas pump kept shutting off as if the tank was full, but the tank was empty. I attempted to put $10 in gas in, and the pump shut off 8 times. Full service gas stations became a thing of the past.
I brought the car to one dealership (Allston, MA), who told me it needed an entirely new gas tank. After getting the car back after MUCH aggravation and rudeness from VW, the problem still existed.
I brought the car to the dealership I leased it from (VW Gallery in Norwood), and was told that this problem is a "known" Cabrio design problem and that it wouldn't ever go away.
I find it interesting and disgusting that no one at VW (Allston, Norwood, or VW of America) had ever heard of this apparently "known" flaw. I am appalled that this is something I now have to live with for the length of my lease.
General comments?
The customer service of VW is worse than anything I have ever had to deal with. No phone calls are returned, promises aren't kept, and dealerships won't call headquarters back to help resolve a customer problem.
