1989 Holden Berlina review from Australia and New Zealand

"Gotta get one with low K's"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Within one month of owning the car the Harmonic Balancer needed replacing costing $185.

Also managed to snap the chrankshaft censer whilst replacing the balancer, another $65.

One headlight globe.

Every other vn problem, door seals, needed partial respray, rattles rattles rattles.

General comments?

For a V6 it really really is surprising. Try rolling at 20ks then floor it as hard as you can.

Some people say 1st gears hits second to quickly. Whats wrong with this?:

1st gear max approx = 65kph

2nd gear max approx = 120kph

3rd gear max approx = 200kph if you want it to.

4th gear max approx = I don't know, I ran out of straight road.

The only week spot in the cars performance is between 65ks and 85ks where it all seems to die, until you hit around 85ks then watch the speedo race to 120ks like a rocket.

Also helps if you replace holdens awesome airflow restricting exhaust, and put on a pod filter, sounds sweat:)

You also must have good brand name tires alround, otherwise you be in for a rude shock when driving becomes boating, sidesway, down a nature strip, taking out a street sign. and that's how I ended up with a partial respray, formula vn grill, new front bar, aircond compressor and a lot of bog on my bonnet.

Even with new tryes I still get wheel spin in the dry if I push it hard enough :)

Still, all good fun. Would recommend a vn to anyone who wants a big fat fast tank.
