1986 Subaru Justy RS review from Australia and New Zealand
"An easily upgraded club rally car for 0-1300cc class"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Well the clutch was absolutely gone when we got this car, but we really wanted it to do rallies. So we changed the clutch at home. This was really difficult to do and even talking to proper mechanics it is apparently pretty hard. But, it was really worth it and the wheel spin in 2WD on the 155 tires is fantastic.
There is something wrong with the handling at the moment, but I am not sure what yet.
General comments?
Of note is the clutch. There is 2 different pressure plate/clutch kits for the Justy, and the RS has the expensive version.
This car had a very small exhaust system and a terrible lot of bends (2 90degree bends at the back). We recently paid $300NZD to get a 2inch really straight exhaust put in and a hush muffler. Whoa. Look out, because this wee car goes a lot faster now. Well worth the modifications.
We also changed the air intake to a pod filter.
All is working well and I feel that the motor is very reliable so far under racing conditions.
The handling isn't so good, so we are in the process of upgrading the suspension to stiffer springs and urethane bushes. I think when we get some bigger mags on, with low profile tires, then it will handle like its on rails!
