1992 Ford Transit ambulance review from UK and Ireland
"Useful load carrier with plenty of grunt"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing at all!minor servicing is all I have had to do, a result of its superb maintenance in the hands of the ambulance service.
General comments?
The vehicle is pretty quick for its size, although it weighs about 3 tons even without the ambulance equipment in the back and you are aware of all this weight. the engine provides enough power to wheelspin it if you are that way inclined. as you would expect, with the big V6 engine and all that bodywork, fuel consumption is heavy, typically about 18mpg. it doesnt like strong crosswinds, and the non-assisted steering is far too heavy.
I find the final drive ratio is too low, it revs too hard on the motorway
