1999 Holden Berlina VT series II review from Australia and New Zealand

"Always a joy to own and drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Bushes had to be replaced in front suspension to stop a rattle after I picked it up and had 3 people in it.

It goes hard, but its not an Eight : (

General comments?

I bought the vehicle standard, and have modified it extensively, including lowering the suspension and 17"x8" shadow chrome rims with 235-45-r17 rubber. Also have added a cold air intake and stainless steel extractors and 2.5" exhaust. Its silver with dark windows and a head turner.

The only option this car doesn't have except for V8 and manual trans is the lack of traction control, which used to be a problem, but fat wheels and low suspension have helped that cause.

It sounds and looks fantastic, and exceptional power compared to an unmodified V6 Commodore.

It has shown down the new 182kw BA Falcon time after time (my friend who owns one won't admit defeat, and says his is still running in after 27,000km). His isn't the only BA its beat, but the XR6 turbo does leave me for dead : (

Before modifying the vehicle it proved extremely efficient on long trips producing fuel consumption figures of 7.0 litres per 100km (on a trip with cruise control set at 110km/h and climate control set at 23 degrees in 42 degree C heat). The water temp gauge didn't budge above 1/3 either in that extreme ambient heat.

The Berlina has a full 12 function 3 window trip computer (plus a couple of optional extra functions as well).

Gives Instant and Avg fuel figures, Fuel Used and Fuel Remaining in litres, Speed alert, distance to empty, distance and time to arrival as well as total time, Avg speed and an trip meter (can set up twin trip meters) and odometer.

Room inside is impressive (and I'm 6ft 4") and all controls are right where you need them. I love the velor trim and electric front seats.

Auto headlights have saved my battery a few times and the remote central deadlocking is an added security on top of factory alarm.

Wonder how a Garret T4 Turbo and engine chip would go :?)
