1988 Audi 100 2.3E review from Netherlands
"Tons of class for $6000,- investment"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Both hydrolic pressure units for the clutch broke.
Both rear brake calipers had to be replaced.
Injectors replaced.
Ignition cables replaced.
Massive oil leakage on engine.
Cooler broken.
Airco beyond repair in spite of massive investments in repair attempts.
Wiring of cruise control faulty.
Wiring in dash of low beam light faulty.
Catalyst loose in exhaust.
Fuel pump made excessive noise.
General comments?
Very pleasant car to drive, engine stills surprises with its power at this mileage. A passat with similar engine I also own became very tired after same mileage.
Fuel consumption is very good, 8L/100 km.
Car is excellent for long trips, even after drive of 16 hours, one does not feel worn out. Economy is good, except for the fact that it needs a lot of maintenance. A passat of same age and mechanics is much more trustworthy then this audi. Also the 100 is very complex car, without the 1800 page bentley bible repairs are not possible for a layman like me.
The car is very well made, rust is not an issue, also the rattles often observed in vw's are absent after 16 yr.
