1982 Datsun Cherry Coupe review from UK and Ireland
"Stylish and reliable, though not fast"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Persistent radiator blockages caused by rust in the coolant leading to overheating; flushed radiator to fix for a few months before problem returns. This led to 3 blown head gaskets which was the last straw for this car.
1 new clutch.
1 new radiator core.
General comments?
Very comfortable and stylish car, tiny rear windows can be wound down!
Looks sporty, but the engine doesn't match the looks and was quite sluggish.
Generally very reliable over a high mileage; got us to Venice and back one holiday; and to Hungary on another.
Only real problem was the coolant being contaminated from the engine block; a common problem with this engine.
Apart from this, very reliable and easy to drive, with a brilliant gear-change and 5 gears.
