1975 Buick Park Avenue 4-door hardtop review from North America
"One Big, Bad, Black, Mean MAMA!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Catalytic Converter plugged up and almost started my carpet on fire, I chopped it off and replaced with dual straight pipes and flow masters.
Replaced alternator.
Replaced Water Pump.
Replaced radiator.
Replaced Entire Brake System.
Replaced Manifold, Valve Cover, Front Cover, Heads, And Front and Rear Main Gaskets.
Other than that, just general maintenance to make up for years of neglect...
General comments?
This car is a pleasure to drive if you can afford the gas. Although it has a huge motor, it's heavy weight (4600 lbs) keeps it from taking off like a true muscle car. Performance and economy improved quite a bit after I chopped off the Converter. Sometimes I can get close to 19MPG on the highway. This car had a few nickle and dime problems at first, probably due to sitting in a barn for 8 years. As far as comfort and reliability goes this this is a posh indestructible tank. All the power options still work. I got into an accident with a Chevy Tahoe (he Ran a Red light and I t-boned him at 30 MPH and tipped him over), and It barely bent my bumper. It did send three occupants of the Tahoe to the Hospital. I don't think you'll ever find a Cadillac, Lexus, Infinity, or new Buick for that matter that's as comfortable or smooth. Of Course with gas nearly $3.00 per gallon this is not my daily driver, I drive a beat up '92 Toyota Corolla to save gas. If the trunk was any bigger on my Park Ave, I could haul the Toyota around with me and use it when needed, he he he... Nothing beats a cruise in an old fashioned American boat!!!
