1994 Holden Acclaim review from Australia and New Zealand

"A very powerful car however at a cost"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Master braking cylinder replaced.

Bonnet lining replaced.

Radiator replaced.

Dash cluster replaced.

Remote key head replaced.

Central locking solenoid replaced in the drivers door.

Electric mirror switch replaced.

Harmonic balancer replaced.

Water pump replaced.

Alternator replaced.

Extractor gasket replaced (have performance exhaust)

Fuel pump replaced.

Crank angle sensor replaced.

Temperature sensors replaced twice.

Manifold and valley gaskets replaced.

Thermostat replaced.

Plastic hose fittings on manifold were replaced as they cracked and leaked coolant.

Most of the lights in the rear spoiler have stopped working and now the front left wheel is making creaking noises every time I brake.

General comments?

Car has a lot of power when needed.

Looks great with nice mags and spoiler.

Interior is quite nice however the fan can hardly be felt from the rear air vents.

the air conditioning is quite cold however the heater could be improved

The needle on the spedometre sticks on hot days when taking off from rest and pops up at about 40km/h.

Braking in general is very poor with A.B.S and is sufficiently worse than my old Camry witch had drum brakes in the rear.

Have to get used to driving the car as it is quite large.

Fuel economy is very poor with about 16L per 100km in city driving regardless of the fact that I am running a 2.5 inch sports exhaust with Pacemaker extractors witch are meant to improve the fuel economy.

Despite not leaking any oil the car uses a little bit of oil witch is topped up every month.

The driveline makes a soft soothing humming noise when in motion witch i have grown accustomed to.

In general the car is OK. I am very picky with my cars and being very mechanical minded like everything to be in excellent condition hence many of the problems. I would not recommend it as a city car as it is quite large and thirsty, but would be suited well in the country.
