1996 Asia Motors Rocsta DX 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Good all round car

Faults:

Well I've had a few problems.

I had to put a new alternator on it, so I just modified an old Subaru wagon to fit it.

At the moment I'm trying to get brake cylinders and shoes, but no one seems to have them.

General Comments:

My engine is also worked, but I need new suspension cause it doesn't handle that well.

1993 Asia Motors Rocsta 1.8 petrol 5 speed

Summary:

A pleasure to own, despite compromises

Faults:

Some dash electronics.

Horn deceased itself.

Fuel guage sender unit.

Interior is pretty shot.

General Comments:

It is a compromise, and you have to realise it's purpose in life was to get you in the drivers' seat as cheaply as possible, therefore some creature comforts were missing.

A very basic vehicle, simple trim, simple design. A rough, no frills machine that despite all this, has rather extraordinary appeal.

Forget the extras, these cars are simple, non pretentious fun machines. They are not serious 4wd's, but they get the job done. On the road they are surprisingly pleasant to drive and in the sun, a real joy.

The clutch is good and the steering is adequate. Brakes are better than average, and the whole driving experience feels quite modern, even though it looks like a 1950's throwback.

It always starts, and has never given me any trouble.

Parts are getting harder to source in oz.

I have had mine for four years, and despite the bumps and getting dragged off at the lights by just about everything, I can say it has been a pleasure, and quite a surprise.

2000 Asia Motors Rocsta country 4x4 2.2 diesel

Summary:

A good little performer

Faults:

Nothing as yet. I have only owned this car for a few weeks. I want to try and find the guy who put a post on this website regarding the turbo he put on his R2. I want to do the same thing.

General Comments:

I really love this truck great for camping and towing my boat.

1996 Asia Motors Rocsta DX Deluxe 1.8L petrol

Summary:

Just get one and surprise your friends

Faults:

Clutch master cylinder needed replacing.

Petrol tank sprang a leak after a hit on the ground.

General Comments:

This truck is a surprise performer off road.

With 31/10.5/15 Centipede mud tires and a 32mm body lift this 4wd can do most others can't without serious modifications.

I have also removed the front sway bar for more travel and flex off road.

This mod has made no difference to road handling due to big tires.

The 1.8l petrol is sumewhat underpowered.

A no frills, but fun machine, good for the city life, but loves the weekends in the country

General Comments:

This little 4x4 will go nearly anywhere.

1994 Asia Motors Rocsta DX 2.2 Mazda R2 turbo diesel

Summary:

In low range it's a weapon

Faults:

Hand-break cable stretched at 74000km and I'm still looking for a replacement.

Stitching on the seats has come undone and I'm waiting on some smaller racing buckets.

Front bumper looked dicky fixed big-time.

Straight 2.2 diesel was a gutless p.o.s on road.

General Comments:

I picked it up in may of '98. Two weeks later I had found a scraped Mazda van (i can't remember the make) with the 2.0L R2 motor, but with a turbo. The inlet maifold bolted straight on no hassles. Two weeks later It had a 2" body lift and 31" coopers and a new nudge type bumper.

I have a Rocsta with a tray, which was bought from Albany; apparently they were sold like that.
