1997 Chrysler Grand Voyager LX 3.3 litre petrol

Summary:

Buy a later model if you can afford it

Faults:

The rear window motor on the passenger side has failed. $250 repair.

Cruise control did not work. $300 repair.

Engine started misfiring. Caused by failed leads and plugs. $800 repair as engine needs to be dropped to access rear plugs.

Roof lining is falling off.

Hand brake is useless.

Air conditioner can't cope with the Aussie sun.

Needs window tinting.

Not that powerful.

General Comments:

It's the size of the Queen Mary, almost as luxurious and has similar handling.

Reasonably quiet ride.

Very comfortable. So much so that most passengers comment.

Masses of room inside, and the removable seats come in handy.

Stereo is very good for a standard one.

The handbrake was subject to a recall; yours might not have gotten the fix.

1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager LE 3.3 petrol

Summary:

A luxurious wagon, but not reliable and poor brakes

Faults:

Alternator wouldn't charge when air conditioning was running - switched off air con and was OK, fault was linked to poor wiring on car.

Battery flat due to Alternator brushes worn.

Main drive belt slipped off and power steering went while driving.

Power steering shudders is noisy when turning at slow speed - pump going?

General Comments:

This is the most luxurious people carrier let down by average reliability and brakes that are not up to the job of stopping 1.7 tons within a reasonable distance.

My PT Cruiser, the brakes on that are also rubbish, it too tips the scales at almost 1800kg, the brakes are just not up to the job. I think the 'Flintstones' probably had better brakes.

Great car RUBBISH brakes.

2002 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE 3.3 V6

Summary:

Great family mover

Faults:

If you used the foot brake and the RH indicator at the same time all lights at the rear came on.

Had to go back to the dealer twice for this - found to be a earth wiring problem from manufacture. Earth wiring was replaced and all seems fixed.

General Comments:

Lovely car to drive.

Got this to take the kids and In Laws around - seats 7 adults easily.

Plenty of space for the kids and luggage - especially if you remove one of the single seats behind the front passenger.

Seats are very heavy to remove.

The Air Conditioning controls take a lot to understand. The handbook recomends set it an leave it - I recommend this too!
