Faults:
Nothing major has gone wrong with the car to date. The things I have replaced are simply because I am picky and like everything to be operating perfectly.
Had to renew the radiator as it was making the engine run fairly hot.
Done all the usual repairs for a car of this age. Front struts, air conditioner seals, two rear brake calipers (seized), etc.
General Comments:
The car was brought as a GL base model falcon. Over a year the entire car was converted over to Fairmont ghia specs.
With the standard CFI 3.9L engine, the car performed slow to say the least. After a multi-point conversion and the addition of extractors, 2.5inch exhaust and K&N pod filter, the engine began to show its real potential. The removal of the inefficient 4 speed auto and replacement of a 5 speed manual transmission is guaranteed to deliver an extreme rush to even the wildest of street drivers.
Because the car is a large family wagon, it doesn't handle at all well. Sports struts and a lowering job all round will help reduce body roll and bring the beast into control on tight corners.
