1982 Holden Camira JB 1.6 carburetter

Summary:

Awesome cars and even better paddock bashes!

Faults:

Nothing much really, although the rust has got into it bigtime so its now my paddock basher.

General Comments:

There is hardly any floor left in it because it has rusted away. It that bad it cannot be fixed. The rest of the car has rusted up too, but I love it. It makes the perfect paddock basher so if you were wanting a paddock basher definitely consider one. But look after it.

1982 Holden Camira SL-X 1.6 petrol

Summary:

If you find one in good nick, it will serve you well as a work car

Faults:

Distributor wore out. Relatively cheap to replace with a reconditioned one.

Water pump suffered from corrosion due to the quality of the water in the area.

Driver's seat was slowly beginning to collapse.

General Comments:

Small engine makes for cheaper running costs.

One downside to the engine is that it lacks pick up and go when compared to other front wheel drive sedans available.

Since this model does not have power steering, you really have to wind the steering wheel when turning which can become very heavy when doing slow speed tasks like parking.

There can be large amounts of rust on the body.

Aside from this minor problems, it is a good first car for a teenager who just got their license.

1982 Holden Camira SL/X 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A great car!!!

Faults:

The rocket cover gasket was worn out about a month after I got the car, cheap and easy to replace.

Minor electric faults, due to bad alternator, also cheap and easy to replace.

General Comments:

This car offers great fuel economy because it has a tiny little engine.

It is surprisingly fast for a car of it's age and engine size.

The cabin is bleak due to all round dark blue interior.

When you go round the corners or drop down the clutch, it makes this squeeky noise in the suspension or something. And after a 10min trip, the motor really smells bad!

I own a 2 ltr Camira, white colour, blue interior. It is my 2nd Camira as I had an 85 1.8 ltr Camira, in which I blew the head gasket. The car still drove for a month and a half after that.

My current Camira is very sick with gearbox problems and 2 snapped engine mounts and a missing tail pipe, but it still goes very hard for its condition and yes it's very fast.

I love them so much that explains why I got a 2nd, my Camira came with C/L and engine immoblizer. When I get around to fixing it up I will hot mine with a custom VL Walkinshaw body kit, so it should look like a mini Walkinshaw.

By the way did anyone know that the JD and JE, but not JB are more powerful than the six cylinder Commodore up until the VK which beats the Camira by 1 kw?
