1995 Holden Statesman 3.8L V6
Summary:
Does it race? Good, race it home and burn it!
Faults:
Belt snapped a week after I got it.
Transmission was faulty.
Fuel pump stopped working.
Was hard to start at the best of times.
Electrics and wiring were all playing up and breaking down.
The engine was rough with bad vibrations in 1st gear when taking off.
Climate control only worked when it wanted to.
Power steering leaked, along with the transmission.
General Comments:
Would never buy another Holden after this. It was an absolute heap of crap, with no power, and uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time.
Holden's reputation is over rated. Buy one brand new and you can bet your bottom dollar you'll be fixing it for 10 years as they start falling apart after 3 years.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I would take that review for a grain of salt really.
I bet its some Ford fan just trying to bash Holden just for kicks.
300,000 k's and you were expecting it not to have any problems oh please!

Mate, I own a 94-95 VR Statesman V6, it's now done 320,000 kms since new.
The problems you have described are normal for that amount of kms. I've replaced the throttle body with one off a five litre, the injectors of two 98 model Magna's (four cylinder engines) which provide better fuel economy (bigger spray pattern) stage 3 mode chip/intake, extractors. Spent $3000 since new not including tyres.
Mate, stop your complaining, spend some cash and you'd have a decent car. If you're not happy, sell your car.

Hi all, I tend to agree with the comments made in regards to the original post.
I got ripped off in 2008 when I purchased a "reliable" VR 5 litre Statesman.
This car was an ex-cop car with 280000 k/s on the clock. It was thrashed. Oil was sludge, trans had a shutter, the radiator was a sieve, and all the electronics were minced.
At the time, I thought it was okay for that price.
However, things that went wrong since:
Trans blew, alternator failed, hall effect sensor in distributor failed, heater hose tap snapped, electric windows shorted out, head lights wiring failed, suspension failed (rear shock split through the boot), front wheel bearing failed.
This is just the short list.
However, after all that has been said, I'm a bit mechanically minded and got a trade card with Repco, so since then I've fixed all the problems, and the car is running like a dream.
It's now on 315000 k/s, and even though the engine has had the guts thrashed out of it, the motor's not blowing smoke, is not tired, and is smooth as a baby's backside.
So, finally, I say if you've got a lemon, don't blame the breed, blame the last owner!!

You had the car for 300,000km/13 years? And that's the list of things that went wrong? You've been lucky I'd say. Most cars would have a list 3 times as long.
