2007 Holden Viva JF 1.8 sedan

Summary:

I'm very disappointed as I've only had it for 2 years from a car yard for $6500

Faults:

The engine light stays on.

Both upper headlights blew (now replaced).

Hard-shifting thump in R and D.

Very loud revving when the car starts.

Sometimes stalls when it goes in low gear.

General Comments:

When the engine light went on, I took it to have it scanned and the mechanic said it is the transmission. Being a female, I did not want to get ripped off for repairs, so I am saving more $ in case it will be costly. Headlights are good now.

It is just sitting in the garage at home while I use my son's XY Holden Commodore which runs well.

2006 Holden Viva 1.8

Summary:

Utter crap

Faults:

Engine light is always on.

Broke down twice in the one year I drove it.

Things inside always needed replacing.

Engine was just crap overall.

General Comments:

My dad bought this car for my 18th birthday. I was so excited, but after driving it for a week, it broke down, and when dad took it to his mechanic, he was told this can be the worst car; things always going wrong etc...

Over the year I had it, we spent $5.5K on the car. He bought it for $4.9K, and my best friend had just crashed her car, loved my Holden Viva, and decided she wanted to buy it. Tried to warn her out of it, but she didn't see any issues. She bought it off me for $4000; since then I bought a Toyota Corolla; best decision I've ever made. Most reliable car.

Would never recommend a Holden or a Holden Viva to anyone. My friend has not had any issues with the car; fingers crossed everything is fine; she will most likely run it into the ground anyway LOL; she's on her third car in a year and a half.

2006 Holden Viva 1.8 petrol

Summary:

This is the worst purchase I have ever made - a spur of the moment decision, sucked in

Faults:

- Water pump within six months.

- Engine oil leaks (everywhere).

- Map sensor replaced twice.

- Ignition coil replaced twice.

- Thermostat housing replaced twice (plastic connector disintegrates).

- Stereo stopped working.

- Bonnet wouldn't open.

- Oil dipstick broke apart.

- Front headlights blowing out.

- Electric windows won't work.

- Engine light on continually.

- Ever ridden a clutch in a manual car, yep every time I take off it does that and it's an automatic.

- When it changes gears, there is an almighty jolt.

- Front tyres wear out on the outside edge.

General Comments:

Feels nice to sit in, but drives awful. Holden really don't care. It really does look like a nice car, it feels well set up as in cockpit space, but once you drive it for a while, you realise it has no power and handles terribly. It obviously has inherent problems, that no matter how many times you get it repaired, the same thing reoccurs.

I'm not one for moaning, but this would have to be the worst thing they have ever badged. The only good thing about it is people feel sorry for me when I go and purchase parts or get it repaired. They actually give me discounts!!!

Well, you must enjoy it on the quiet, as you kept it for 9 years.

Maybe can't afford another car?

Sorry to hear of the problems you had with this car. I almost bought one, glad I didn't now. Bought a second hand car instead (Ford Focus) and have had little trouble with it (bought 2007, still have it in 2015).

General Comments:

My wife loved this car at first, but it seems the older it gets, the more problems it has. Most cars, this occurs as per the norm, but this Viva is from 2007 and is already is falling apart. Slow auto transmission changes, basic feeling air con, sluggish engine.

I had an oil leak from day one. All Holden would do is fix it, but never replace the car. Now after 7 years, the driver's seat is broken and there are major oil leaks. Now everything is going, I'm looking for another car. I'm very scared in case it happens again. We bought it new; never trust a salesman.
