1993 Honda Integra ZXi 1.6 SOHC

Summary:

Very good built and reliable

Faults:

Usual maintenance: Tyres, brakes etc.

Distributor was changed, though it was not the main cause of the car not starting. It is a common fault of Honda to have trouble with main relays.

Paint started fading. Car was repainted before I got it, and obviously it was not super high quality. But it lasted quite a bit.

Needed new cambelt when I sold it. But that's just because of the mileage. Belt was in OK condition, but it is advised to change it to avoid problems.

Started to smoke after 200k.

General Comments:

This was a car that was literally trouble free motoring. Until the last few months (where the problem was the main relay), this has always started first time. No problems at all.

This car was being floored everyday for 3 years, but serviced properly and checked with regularity. So yes... abused but maintained.

I have put on Dunlop SP tyres, and really from that moment on, even with its 14" ROH wheels, it was a monster in the corners. Very well balanced and handled great.

The interior is of very good quality, and it is well put together. Nothing broke or got worn, seats are just as good as how I got them. Driver positioning is quite good, and all instruments and controls are in reach. Nothing too complex, and everything is quite basic in this base model. You've really got to thrash it up to end up having a messy interior.

The 1.6 though is nothing too impressive in terms of performance. It just gets the job done. Single overhead with automatic tranny doesn't really leave any expectations.

Consumption was not too bad. 7L per 100km was about as good as it got. But then again, it was an automatic.

1993 Honda Integra Si VTEC 1.8L DOHC VTEC

Summary:

Sleek And Stylish with Performance

Faults:

Radio aerial stays in the same position (disconnected by previous owner).

General Comments:

After receiving the car in April of 2003, I haven't had a problem with it.

Performance wise, it does its job, and excellent acceleration (for a sub 2L car) is only a downshift away.

It handles excellently, and has gotten me out of a sticky situation in more than one occasion, yet the aftermarket MOMO Corse steering wheel has made the car have much larger turning circle than my 1991 Honda Integra LS.

Build quality is Honda excellent; the VTEC engine sounds terrific, and has a reputation for reliability.

It is one of the most modifiable cars on the market, not my thing, but it's nice to know it can be tuned for greater performance.

Seats are comfortable, the 2 cup-holders under the tape deck/CD player are generally useless for bigger cups/drinks.

Heating system seems to take 5-10 minutes to start, giving me some decent hot air through the vents. Air con is very efficient, taking much less time.

Passengers complain about the lack of room in the backseat, but I've sat in the rear of a C180 Kompressor, and it has just as much room as that. What do you expect from a subcompact coupe?

Disappointments? Australia doesn't have a speed limit I like to drive at in the inner city, and the car feels incredibly restrained and normal when not giving it a good rev.
