1992 Hyundai Lantra GL 1.6

Summary:

Steer well clear of this make and model

Faults:

Crank shaft angle sensor was replaced at 170000.

Cam Belt replaced at 170000.

Radiator replaced at 172000.

All leads replaced at 171000.

Engine now rattling once warmed up.

Whining noise for about 5 minutes after start up.

General Comments:

This car likes to gobble up all of my finances from month to month on costly repairs.

I have now been told engine is worn out at only 178,000 after $1500 worth of repairs in 6 months.

Interior seems sturdy and is very comfortable which is a good thing while you are waiting on the side of the highway for a tow truck!!

1992 Hyundai Lantra GLS 1.6

Summary:

I would not recommend it

Faults:

Timing belt broke at 70,00km resulting in extensive valve and camshaft damage.

Electric accessories such as windows, radio antenna, central locking are unreliable.

Extensive suspension problems around 80,000km.

General Comments:

The car has a beautiful paint job and well equipped and finish is OK.

However it is gutless esp. with a/c switched on.

1992 Hyundai Lantra GL 1.6

Faults:

Headlight globes (3), master cylinder at 25,000k, electric aerial, windscreen wiper delay (all under 3y warranty) and finally "extreme" upper engine wear (cams and rollers) at just 65,000k ("cause a mystery" Hyundai dealer).

General Comments:

Heavy despite power steering. The 1.6 engine was gutless, especially when the air-con was on. When the upper engine started to get dodgy I traded it within a week on a new Mk3 VW Golf.

I agree with you! hyundai lantra is not reliable. I spend 2500 to buy it. after that, I spend 2000 to repair it! I only drive 9000km during one year! It reduces my bank account to nearly zero twice during one year!
