Summary:
Old School Class
Faults:
Main thing: Brakes.
They stay on.
Complete overhaul done - problem still arises.
Have to jab the brake pedal to get them to go off.
If you drive it for too long unaware of the brakes being on - fires start.
General Comments:
Super for cruising - even though it uses fuel like there is a hole in the tank, and it is so heavy, the 4.2 liter engine is needed for it to keep up.
Sounds wicked, though.
Very old school.

I really like the old Jaguars. The new ones are awesome too. Brakes are very important to a car.

I had this problem with a Mark 2 Jaguar. The brakes would stay on and the pedal would be rock hard, it wouldn't move! I found the problem was the brake master cylinder piston sticking in the bore due to a mechanic putting rubber grease inside the boot where the pedal rod goes in. In good faith he was trying to reduce any likelihood of damp getting in there.
The rubber grease had got into the bore and dried to a gum.

Jaguar used the wrong spec on the brake springs. Replace them and your brakes should be fine.
