2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport

Summary:

Despite the problems, I do love the XJ, it's as tough as nails

Faults:

Had the Jeep XJ Sport for two hours after driving her off the lot and completely overheated. New radiator and thermostat paid for by the dealer, and I was back on the road.

Got the common issues; AC and passenger window, but have an incredible hooooooooo noise coming through the dash.

Starts at about 80kph, but the window wiper fluid gets rid of it for a while. I assume it's a crack in the windscreen seal, but haven't been able to find it.

The hatch doesn't always open, very temperamental. Especially annoying when you've just bought a fridge and can't get it out :\

General Comments:

Great for towing and lots of fun on the beach. It's a very robust vehicle.

My hatch lock seemed a bit gummed up as well. I pulled the plastic cover off the lift gate and hosed the assembly down with spray-on lithium grease, then worked the assembly a bit. Problem solved for a few bucks. Give it a try.

2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport

Summary:

High maintenance junk

Faults:

- Constant electrical faults, most recently the windows.

- AC works, but very poor performance.

- Engine mounts needed replacement.

- Replaced front differential.

- Will need a new radiator.

General Comments:

Even if I was warned, I decided to give Jeep a chance, but I was let down completely.

The workmanship is appalling, and the build quality likewise, something is always rattling/squeaking/vibrating...

I have had 4WDs from the 70s that had less problems than this junk.

You bought this Jeep used with fairly high miles on it.

Cherokees are actually very good vehicles, and are by no means "junk".

It's OK... you consider it junk and the rest of us love them! Keep it up, and we can keep buying these very reliable and great performing vehicles for even lower prices.

Reliable? I changed the sticker on the back of my Jeep to read "there's only One Jeep... that runs". Yours must be that Jeep. The rest of us stand with our Jeeps in their natural habitat... by the side of the road with the hood up.

Summary:

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice.

Faults:

AT 80,000 both drivers and passenger door motors went out, would not lock or unlock, windows grinded at top. Had both complete motors in doors replaced. Once the drivers side went the passenger side followed. Now low and behold the back hatch will not open. A/C went out, later that day, car started smoking as belt was burning. Could not drive it, had to be serviced with new air compressor before it could be driven safely. If is was not attached to the "major organs" I would have just not fixed the A/C. Not an option for the 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Oh yeah, the other day I went outside and found my rearview mirror on the dashboard.

General Comments:

It reminded me of the commercial where the lady finally pays off the car and wonders when something will happen. Got to get rid of this piece of crap and go back to the most reliable car on earth: TOYOTA. Would still have that 91 camry if it had not been totalled. What a shame. Live and Learn. Just because a car had a rep before just means that the company tries to get by on rep, therefore skimping on the product overtime: JEEP. Newsflash: I took very good care of this care, it's a Jeep, not a rolls, Jeep can't take the heat!

2000 Jeep Cherokee

Faults:

The radiator went within 2 months of purchase.

I have a gripping noise / shudder in the rear left after the car has traveled 20km at 100k per hour. It only happens when the car is warm, but not around town warm. Feels like the auto, but only happens when you turn right.

General Comments:

Coming from a lada niva this car is luxury.
