1965 Land Rover Series 2 2.25 petrol

Summary:

It will be handed down through generations!

Faults:

Alternator (fitted at factory) needs refurbishing. Fuel line blockages due to crud in secondary tank. Worn Universal Joint in left swivel housing.

No other issues really.

General Comments:

Ex-Australian Army Series IIA Ambulance.

Bought in 2008 with 26355 original miles as a restoration project, but it is too good in original condition to bother redoing. Starts first go every time, or first crank if using the handle. (!)

High marks for performance and comfort are relative considering what it is.

Very simple vehicles to won and work on, and parts are dirt cheap and widely available.

They have their quirks - they leak more oil than the Exxon Valdez and the electrics are... well rubbish. The windscreen smearers are exactly that and nothing more.

1965 Land Rover Series 2 IIa 1/2 tonne Utility 2.25L 4 cylinder petrol

Summary:

Great off road, but take the bus around town

Faults:

Coil lead burnt out.

Rear shock absorbers replaced.

Exhaust system replaced.

General Comments:

The vehicle is extremely capable off road.

The ride quality is appalling.

The vehicle is not really suited as a day to day drive, as its excessive turning circle, crash gearbox and high (military spec) suspension make city driving and car parks a chore.

I have not yet found a load too heavy to pull or a trailer too big to tow.

The vehicle is too slow for highway use.

The 4 cylinder petrol engine is unbreakable.

The vehicle is equipped with a true roller cam and cam followers.

1966 Land Rover Series 2 SWB 2.25 petrol

Summary:

Outstanding value for money

Faults:

Battery failure, due to age of battery.

Water pump has been replaced 3 times.

Seats have a little wear on corners.

Some rust in bulkhead.

General Comments:

I would put these vehicles in front of any other for off road performance.

Fuel consumption is outstanding due to fitting a webber.

Overdrive also is a must for on road use.
