I just purchased a 1985 190E used with 113,000 miles on it-original owner and she had every mile accounted for in service record.

So far, only problem is with air conditioning. Considering its age-it still looks very nice, and the body and interior are immaculate. I have never owned a Mercedes before-I hope I get my 2000 dollars worth!

I love the 1985 Mercedes Benz 190e 2.3 8 valve engine. It's a great engine to work on... But because it's a Mercedes, there is a LOT of work to do. I'm rebuilding one myself to high performance. I'm 17, and this is my first car and I love it very much. I'm hoping to make this car real fast when I'm through.

If you want to make one high performance, you must get all your internal parts custom made, like a forged camshaft, forged crankshaft, forged pistons and forged rocker arms. You also need racing bearings.

This Mercedes has a two piece drive shaft, which isn't bad, but if you're wanting to make it go over 180 mph, you must make it a one piece or you'll twist it.

Also, increase the brake caliper size, rotors, and pads. A rebuilt tranny is a must-and a bigger torque converter (if it's an automatic like mine). The cylinder head is aluminium. You must get it refabricated... And there's much more, but for it to stay stock - it's wonderful and a beast of its own.

Great Car, very comfortable to drive at higher speeds, no problems there.

Sticks to the road in the the DRY, I have thrown this car at all corners at all speeds and it just keeps sticking, but in the wet, another story, its all over the place.

1991 Mercedes-Benz 190 2.3 Luxury

Summary:

A prestige performance pocket rocket

Faults:

N/A.

General Comments:

This car is great - never had a single problem since I purchased it from my father.

It will blow many modern day cars at the lights and on the highway - despite its age.

Still looks the part in its green metallic paintwork and will keep on going with only 75000 kms on the clock.

Among the best cars Mercedes has ever built - but it must be at least a 2.3L to make it perform.
