1984 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 280SE W126 2.8 petrol I6

Summary:

A good, usable classic

Faults:

When I first bought it, I had to have the bushes replaced for a Road Worthy Cert.

The back seats had completely collapsed, but I never bothered to get them fixed - they were still comfy compared to a contemporary sedan.

Power steering belt snapped.

General Comments:

I got this car as a 19 year old when I began studying, and needed something to cover the 1 and a half hour commute. As a high speed lounge room, she was fine, the ride was just sensational and she soaked up the bumps in what was a very old highway quite well.

I love the W126, but unfortunately the 2.8 straight six is too underpowered in a large car. Get one of the bigger engines, and you would be fine.

A great car, even for a young person - just spend the extra money and get a good one, it will save you lots in the long run!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
