1984 Mitsubishi Colt 1.4

Summary:

So worth investing in one of these

Faults:

Just bought it. One owner before myself. Just got roadworthy done and needed bugger all. 4 new tyres. Brake fluid cap had a broken clip so replaced that and flushed the brake fluid because water was in the fluid.

The rocket cover gasket was leaking.

Rear bearings needed resetting.

Door seals needed fixing (had shrunk).

Wheel stud needed replacing.

One cylinder has lost a little compression but runs fine still. And the previous owner said it goes through oil a bit, but not over the top.

General Comments:

Paid $400 for this little banger and cost under $1000 to get roadworthy including 4 new tyres.

All in all cost $2000 including on road costs and couldn't be happier. Zips around town no worries; just slows going up hill on the highway a little. But the saving on fuel is the best.

Stoked I bought this!

Apparently it's a limited addition Colt 45. I don't know how limited these are in ways of numbers sold?

Consumer Reports Canada named that the most reliable car in Canada for 1984. I am glad you're enjoying the little buzz box.

It was sold in the US as the Dodge Colt. Neat little cars. Very hard to find now. Terrible rust protection. I'd love to find a good one someday, but hardly any are left.

Cousin had an '84 Colt back in the day, great little car. It lasted until 1997 and had well over 200,000 KM's on it before it got junked! Spent most of its life driving up and down New South Wales, good times in the 1980's and 1990's.

1984 Mitsubishi Colt RC 1.6 litre

Summary:

Great car Vince colt will live forever

Faults:

Well the door has no seals at all.

Wheel stud broke

Engine leaks oil

Burns oil

Rear brakes are shuddering - hand brakes.

Revs high in gears because of burnouts and hand brake turns.

General Comments:

The Colt is a beast. It doesn't matter what you do to the car, it never breaks. I've taken it 4wding over massive jumps through parks and yet it still runs fine and starts first go. Bought the car for 400$, and one year later it still runs fine.

One thing, it will struggle to go over 130 kmh, 145 kmh is pretty much max speed. 1st gear will pull 50km max, second 110km, and third 145 max.

The car is great on fuel when not driven very hard.

The hand brake is amazing - you can do great power slides.

Note the car won't do a burnout standstill unless it has a lot of oil on the road.

A lot of jumps over 2 metres high may break the CV joints.

This car sounds like a masterpiece of engineering and mechanics. where can I get one!!

You should be able to find one on the side of most major Australian highways without rego plates or windows, wheels etc, that you could have for free, like this one will be soon enough.

1984 Mitsubishi Colt GL 2.0 leaded

Summary:

It was a very powerful little car

Faults:

When I got the car the only problem was a little bit of play in the steering.

The water pump has just recently packed up.

And the heater doesn't work.

General Comments:

It had a lot of grunt for a little car. It got to about 100km/h in around 9.5 seconds. It didn't take much to get the little front wheels spinning at all.

Lots of people call all Mitsubishi cars rubbish, but if you treat them right they'll be faithful.

It could of handled better.
