1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR Turbo 1.8

Summary:

The best 80's performance car you can buy

Faults:

I haven't had it long enough for things to start going wrong, but when I received it:

Engine burning oil - rings and seals are going.

Wheel bearings worn and steering is erratic.

General Comments:

The Cordia GSR is the best car you can buy in Australia if you are on a budget and after cheap speed.

From it's era, nothing else can touch it. I have blown off Nissan Exa's, Mazda RX7's, Subaru Vortexes and the like, and they simply cannot match the power or scorching acceleration of this car!

The Cordia's interior is very good for a car of its age, with tasteful interior colour schemes, easy to read dials, air conditioning, power mirrors etc. It has a boost gauge of sorts, but does not tell you how much - more an indicator of when the turbocharger is actually working.

It responds well to modifications, currently I am riding on 16 inch fats, 2 1/2 inch exhaust, hi-flow cat, lowered suspension and it looks really awesome.

You can park this car next to anything and marvel at the styling and how well the car looks. It is definitely a car that has aged well. Yes, it is angular, but comparing its looks to the Vortex or Exa, it looks stunning.

It's easy on the fuel until you start using boost, which is when you can actually see the fuel gauge moving - OK, I am exaggerating, but fuel usage under boost IS alarming.

Spare parts are hard to come by and expensive. Only buy this car if you can afford to fork out on expensive items and repairs.

The only thing I regret about my purchase (cost me $2400) is that I chose the unleaded model (AC) that got the smaller injectors and turbo - it loses 20kW to the leaded version.

All in all - the best 80's performance car you can buy.

How far did you beat the exa by.

1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR Turbo 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Cheap, great to drive, and really comfortable

Faults:

Since I have only had the car for a month, not many things have had the chance to go wrong, but things I have noticed may be wrong include:

2nd gear synchromesh is blown. This is probably due to hard driving.

Engine is blowing some smoke (not much). I'm not sure if this is due to worn oil rings or if oil is getting into my mix at some other point, but I wish to know what the cause of this problem is.

General Comments:

My Cordia is a very neat car. It was a good buy, has a good exterior and a near perfect interior.

For the price I paid, it is a very high performance car. It is quick off the line and performs well in all gears.

Some things I don't like are the plastic truck steering wheel and the long gear shift leaver, but I want to keep my car original, and so I'm not sure if I want to replace them just yet.

1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR 1.8 turbo

Summary:

A very quick car.......

Faults:

It tends to get a bit jumpy when it's cold, but other than that it has been faultless.

It goes like a S.O.B. off the lights and I take great pleasure in blowing away any Commodore that would dare try a run with a well tuned Turbo.

I own the mighty CORDIA as well. Love it. It's only a GSL but she does well with the FORDS and COMMODORES all the same.

Couldn't wish for much more in a little 1.6 L.

I own a 1984 Mitsubishi Cordia 4x4 4 speed. What a machine, I have to say it's the best car I've ever had. Pulling 160kph out of 3rd and 220kph in 4th is a great thrill for a $1000 car. I recommend that you take one for a cane as soon as you can???
