1986 Mitsubishi Cordia AC Turbo 1.8 turbo petrol

Summary:

Awesome Entry Level Turbo Coupe

Faults:

Clutch plate went at 205,000 k's.

Exhaust went at 210,000 k's.

Fuel Injection started leaking at 212,000 k's.

Interior is perfect - save for a crack in the dash binnacle - which is very common in AU.

New suspension needed - very tired to begin with. Handling is good, but could be excellent.

Car run into it at 215,000 k's (minor frontal damage)

General Comments:

Great car. Flawed in many ways, but makes you feel good when you drive it. Brings a smile to your face daily.

Good pace, fair pickup and a smooth "jet" like power delivery. It could use more, but is enough to have some fun. Commodore drivers hate me, especially V6s. You can chop 'em...

Awesome seats, some of the most comfortable in the bracket and very supportive. Good enough to use in another car / project. A little cramped (I am 6'5"), but generally excellent in the comfort department. Heater is excellent, everything works (electrics wise)!

Several minor niggles as expected from a 22 year old car. Fairly reasonable to fix in terms of cost, just all happenning at once.

Check the car thoroughly before buying is the best advice I can give.

1986 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR 1.8 turbo L4

Summary:

Excellent bang for your $$$ used buy

Faults:

Battery died.

General Comments:

I like the sporty feel of the car. It has good boost response, but not tyre tearing due to being virtually standard. I understand that it is not as quick as the AA and AB models, but it is in excellent condition.

I am happy with the car; it is comparable in ride quality to my N14 Pulsar, albeit 8 years older.

The bucket seats are a highlight, the over-long gearstick, not so. This will be modified shortly with a shorter stem and short throw kit, knob, etc.

It feels sportier than my N14, with a lower roofline, gauges, 2 doors less, turbo and sleeker styling. I think the cars are on a fairly equal par when it comes to performance (the Cordia is a little quicker), comfort and reliability. This says a lot for the Cordia, as it is far older and cheaper.

1986 Mitsubishi Cordia GLS 1.8 Carburated

Summary:

Great First Car!

Faults:

Rust under the rear hatch, rust around the rest of the car. Idles a bit high some times. Was hard to install a Stereo.

General Comments:

Great car, never had any problems at all.

Quite good performance for a 1800.

The features of the car are great for a 1986 car with PS, PW, Sunroof, Digital Clock, etc...

1986 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Most underrated Turbo car available

Faults:

Alternator needed reconditioning.

Second gear blew while showing off.

Front disks badly worn.

Electrical problems with lights.

General Comments:

This car was purchased for AU$1800.00.

For it's age it is a very good looking and fast car.

I spent more than I expected on restoration, but it has all been worth it.

I replaced the front disks and rear drums with Magna disks, the engine has been replaced with a top to bottom rebuilt 4G63.

The gearbox has been totally rebuilt and a 2.5inch exhaust fitted.

The turbo boost is variable from 6 to 15psi, although I run the car on 12 most of the time.

A set of 15 inch monochrome mags with Dunlop tyres finish off a most tasteful looking car.

Performance wise the Cordia is a pocket rocket considering the engine size.

I have no problems with most cars at the lights and I have topped the 210km/h mark on a secluded country road.

1986 Mitsubishi Cordia GSL Turbo 1.8 litre turbo

Summary:

Quick as lightning

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with my car as yet.

But one of the seats had a small tear in it when I first got the car.

General Comments:

I paid $660 for my car and I replaced the engine about four months ago.

The engine that was in it originally was in good condition, but I was after more performance so I put a GSR engine in it.

I then replaced the original turbo with a TC06.

Now this is one very quick Cordia and it handles brilliantly.

I have no complaints.
