1997 Mitsubishi Diamante SEI 3.5

Summary:

A great car to own and drive, but you maybe disapointed at resale time

Faults:

Brake pads needed replacing after a service and inspection.

General Comments:

Full electrics and descent stereo system for those who wish to be spoiled.

The 3.5 V6 has good torque and steady power across the revs. However, engine noise is noticeable.

A welcome improvement in overall body looks from previous models.

Road holding and cornering is great with very little body roll.

Front wheel spin is a nuisance during faster than normal take offs, especially in the wet.

Possible problem at resale time.

1997 Mitsubishi Diamante SEi 3.5 CC

Summary:

It's my baby!!

Faults:

Shudder in car, identified as power bands in auto. Fixed accordingly.

No other majors at this stage, touch wood.

General Comments:

Love the car. The leather interior is comfortable and the cabin roomy and spacious.

3.5 litre engine is powerful and smooth.

The auto is very smooth through the changes and the ratios offer some good low end torque with good top end cruising speed.

1997 Mitsubishi Diamante SEi 3.5 V6

Summary:

A exceptionally good bargain

Faults:

Nothing so far!

General Comments:

I've had the car for about 1 week.

Very smooth ride, definitely lots more power compared to my previous car (which had a 1.5L engine).

Luxurious and very comfortable, very room interior.

1997 Mitsubishi Diamante SEI 3.5 petrol

Summary:

A great car for driving comfort at an affordable price

Faults:

Car shudders at irregular times, and at various speeds.

I returned the car to the dealers twice for inspection.

It appears that the shudder emanates from the automatic transmission.

I am told it has been repaired.

General Comments:

I like the style of the car and enjoy the "bells and whistles".

Like my previous V3000 SE, hugs the road well and is a smooth rider.

Without too much effort the 3.5 motor does bring a smile to the face if you decide to push it down the highway.

I enjoy the factory standard stereo system which includes a 10 CD stacker.

1997 Mitsubishi Diamante Super Saloon 3.0 petrol

Summary:

Poorly designed automatic transmission lets this good car down

Faults:

The automatic transmission failed completely at 94000 km. A retaining clip came away from the main housing causing metal filings that contaminated the solenoid and sealing rings.

The transmission failed again at 96400 km and was repaired.

It is showing signs of failing again at 104700 km.

General Comments:

Comfortable car to drive. Very quiet.

Expensive to service at 100000 km.

This car unfortunately has a very touching gear box.

But it is not the car's fault, but the owners from new to now. These cars need to be kept in good nick mechanically from new. Mostly with the tranny. Mine had the same issue. So I got them to fully rebuild and replace the whole gear box. Also CV torque converter, computer, everything around the gear box. Came to $10,000.00, all paid by the car yard.

Since that time I have just serviced the gear box. And it works wonderfully now. The man fixing the gear box was shock about how bad a condition it was in. He guessed it was still probably still had the factory oil in it.

Just so whoever is looking at getting one of these cars, make sure to get one with history, or make sure you get the motor and tranny check first. Not a problem of the car, but of no servicing, causing failure.
