1992 Nissan 200SX RS13 1.8 turbo

Summary:

For its age, good all round car for my needs !

Faults:

The original T25 turbo let go at 135,000 kms.

The head gasket sprung a leak at 190,000 kms at the same time as 2 of the 4 coil packs. That's it.

General Comments:

Classic styling that hasn't dated (anyone compared the shape of the new Ferrari coupe etc yet?)

Providing these cars are maintained, they are cheap economical fun - make sure good oil is used despite the distance the car has done in its lifetime - shame turbo timers weren't fitted as standard equipment.

My 200SX is still on the standard factory rims (now with 205/55 R 15 Nexen N3000 tyres, not the 195/60 R15 size) but has been lowered an inch all round... rides like its on rails and being a longer wheelbase car, is comfortable to cruise along in regardless of speed.

Slipping a K & N air filter into the standard filter box (instead of a pod filter) improved fuel economy somewhat, with a noticeable power increase.

I am 6'2" tall and fit into my 200SX with ease - the factory sunroof helps with that little bit "extra" room, although my head isn't jammed in the roof by any means!

Sure, it's a 1992 car, but its fun to drive, has classic looks and sometime soon, some young guy who wants to drift it will offer me the right money for it... then its S15 time!

2001 Nissan 200SX SX 2.0 turbo

Summary:

Awesome handling and performance

Faults:

No problems since purchased.

General Comments:

Purchased this car after test driving a number of turbo charged japanese spec cars.

Awesome looks, awesome performance without the huge price tag.

Cabin is a little cramped for me with a 6ft 3inch frame, but then again it is a japanese stlyed sports weapon.

1997 Nissan 200SX Sports Limited 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo

Summary:

Awesome car that can be modified infinitely at a budget price

Faults:

Two Blown Head Gaskets within two years.

Also compared to the R33 Skyline GTS-T, it's a light car!

General Comments:

Two blown head gaskets, but only because I drive the car hard! Too bad for the North Americans because this car is awesome! The engines are designed with so much potential to modify, just adding an after-market air filter and 3inch pipe from the turbo back will add another 15% to the cars performance! In stock specs, it will beat a fully modified Mits FTO. With the added two modifications above, it will outrace both the R32 adn R33 Skyline GTS-T's, Porsche Boxter and Subaru WRX (stock). I know because I've raced them all and beaten them! And in an automatic!

1999 Nissan 200SX Spec r 2.0 turbo

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I was so impressed with my second hand Japanese import non-turbo that I just had to upgrade to a newer NZ new turbo.

I wanted more power and what I got was effortless, seamless power that still gives me a bit a shock when, on the rare occasion that I plant my foot, makes me grin from ear to ear.

Although well equiped the car is understated both inside and out and serves well as an every-day vehicle.

I just nice to know the power is there when you need it without having to sacrifice everyday useability. With a bit of fun and good looks thrown in its a great all round sports car.

2001 Nissan 200SX SPEC S turbo w/ intercooler

Summary:

A reliable brilliant machine at an unbeatable price

Faults:

Nothing major thus far.

Tires and rims look like they will need a change soon.

Scratching of dash... Everything else is peachy cream.

General Comments:

Haven't had it long, but it is sweet thus far. Going replace dash with a carbon fiber one cause it's scratch central... A little restrictive for a guy my height (6 odd foot). Part from that brilliant driving position although with my long arms I wouldn't mind if the gear lever was a little shorter. Still all in all brilliant ride, smooth, quick, and coming out of an s40 a dream to park and take in tight places. A dream around corners, take care in the wet. An awesome package for this price. And the costs for running are sweet in comparison to my previous European s40. Dealer is forced to keep parts for 8 years which is awesome, as living in Australia can sometimes cause problems with getting parts for import vehicles (which this basically is!). Highly recommended.
