1989 Nissan 300ZX 3.0 NA

Summary:

A total lemon - Japanese imports - look out!

Faults:

Transmission - 10 days and $850.00AUD.

Upper front end bushes - still to be fixed.

Cam belt broke at 57,500km (at least that's what the speedo says), I'm up for $3000-$5000AUD to fix it.

General Comments:

This car is a Japanese import, as such I thought the Speedo reading of 56,500km was correct, and that is what the dealer lead me to believe. With the transmission and now cam belt breaking I am thinking otherwise.

The mechanic at Nissan who fixed the transmission has told me that he has never seen a belt break under the standard change over kilometres, in this case 100,000km's, and it is very very rare for the transmission to break in the way it did at such low kilometres.

I have now owned the car for three weeks and only managed 1000km, the warranty sold with the car is hardly worth the paper it's on, it has so far cost me $1200.00AUD and I'm looking at 3-5 more, and then what will I have, but a lemon that I can't with a clear conscience on sell as a 57,500km car.

Talk about buyer beware!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

There are more parts for the 300zx than almost any other. The Maxima and Pathfinder use the same engine. The only thing I have had trouble with is setting the idle. To set it the car has to be warm. or hot to set it. The fica. only works after you start the car.
