2008 Nissan Micra City Collection 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Quirky looks, good engine and lots of space!

Faults:

Nothing yet, but we only got it yesterday.

General Comments:

Great little supermini. Although it has been on sale in other parts of the word for as long as five years, it has only just reached Australia. They have only brought one here; the 1.4 five door with automatic. That suited my mum fine fine though. Even though it's a 1.4, she seems to have trouble staying under 60, and the cabin is very spacious.

The back seats, even when the front ones are all the way back, are still very spacious.

I am not sure on the looks but my mum loves it.

The boot could have been bigger, and the dashboard could have been classier, but it'll do.

Standard features are excellent - we didn't need to order any extras. We did go for the City Collection package though, which gives us 4 more airbags, alloys and a six stacker CD player.

Wouldn't recommend it to a petrol head, but if you live in the city or just want a really economical car, I would recommend it.

I was just wondering how the Micra is going after four years?

1994 Nissan Micra 1L petrol CG10DE

Summary:

I can't find a better 1-1.3L car, it's great to drive and cheap

Faults:

There are no fault codes or any other faults.

Sometimes it doesn't start as quickly as normal.

It gets about 450km from a tank, similar to another friends, but a 3rd friend with an identical model gets at least 600km from a tank, similarly a 4th friend with the 1.3L model also gets around 600km.

I've heard the throttle body / AFM fails around 100-150,000km, I don't think mine has those symptoms yet but it's an easy, moderately priced fix when it happens & the car will be good for another 100-150,000km once fixed.

My timing chains are quiet but once they sound like bolts getting shaken up in a paint tin, they need to be replaced along with their tensioners, can be anywhere from 140-280,000km. Bit expensive, but lots of warning. If they go bang, engine is probably not worth repairing.

General Comments:

Easy to park.

Plenty of headroom, I'm 6'2" 188cm.

Mine is the 2 door model, the doors are longer offering a larger opening for me to get in & out of.

Often described as a bit like a go-cart, the 1.3L certainly.

A bit like a TARDIS, amazing how much stuff can be stuffed inside.

In the future, I will buy another one, same model except newer, maybe the 1.3L.

1995 Nissan Micra SLX 1.3L

Summary:

Excellent - A1 for reliability and ease of use

Faults:

Small hole in the exhaust - from when I bought it (sounds like it's got a sports exhaust).

Clutch cable split at 135,000.

Fan for the A/C only works on high.

General Comments:

This car has been an excellent little purchase - relatively cheap to buy and exceptionally cheap to run - at 150,000km it still does 450km on about 30L of fuel.

Seats are reasonably comfortable - we've done a few long drives in it and it's been no trouble.

Air con still is icy cold.

1989 Nissan Micra LS 1.0

Summary:

Great little run-a-round, light, cheap to run, would loved to have had it in 1989

Faults:

Never had a problem until this week. Car just stopped all of a sudden. Cam belt broke - serious damage to motor.

Could be up to $2000 NZ dollars to fix.

I only paid $1000 for the car to start with so, unfortunately, have to say goodbye to my wee car. It's public transport for me again until I save enough for another wee run-a-round.

General Comments:

Purchased car in a private sale so knew nothing of its maintenance history.

Very tidy, great looking, gleaming, wee red car with a sunroof and fabulous heater!

Thought it would be just the ticket for getting me to and from my place of work. Was never intended to be used on the motorway.

Oops! It was a Hillman Superminx.

It's not so easy to get wee parts for my wee car as it is the only one of it's kind in New Zealand. The only parts I can find are in Canada, UK or Japan.

I have just bought a 1989 Micra LS for our son.. what amuses me is we used to have a Hillman Super Minx 31 years ago. I loved that car, had a starting handle.. which I used a lot.. the Micra seems to be a throwback.. look under the bonnet (hood) lil engine with lotsa space around...simple..as it should be.

Got an '86 Micra with a 1235cc. All smiles. You can see what it was... the cheapest car ever made... in a good way. Light parts easy to make and fit together. If the K-10 had caught on it would be bigger than the VW Beatle. However, gas and motoring in general was subsidized to an astonishing degree during the '80s. Messed up this project which should now be the dominant car on the planet. Down with over-horse-powered cars.

1996 Nissan Micra SLX 1.3 fuel injected. 16v

Summary:

A great car

Faults:

Mechanically - Nothing at all.

Body - Exterior side trims needed re-attaching and paint marked/chipped easily.

Interior - Not well sealed sealed against dust entry.

Electrical - No faults.

General Comments:

This has been a wonderful little car.

Does not handle as well as my mini did, but is more refined and was faster when new.

Mechanically extremely reliable.

Good economy and performance.

Trim is wearing well.

Too much body roll.

Handling improved with lowered suspension.
