1991 Nissan Skyline GTS 2.0L 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great fun

Faults:

- Both tie rod ends

- Left caster rod bent

- Both caster rod rubbers knackered

- Rubber universal between rack and steering wheel wore to the point of breaking

- Tyres, tons of them

- Shocks squeak

General Comments:

This car is purely designed for speed. It is able to corner at 3 times the advised speeds for corners with ease.

The seats lock you in very well (great for donuts and drifting), and it's huge power allows you to start drifts with the tap of the toe.

Unfortunately mine is currently an auto, but will be receiving a manual conversion soon.

1991 Nissan Skyline GTS 25 2.5L Six Cylinder

Summary:

Fun, practical performance car

Faults:

Front suspension arms needed rebushing - cost $NZ200ish.

Manifold water pipe rusted from the inside out - water leak. Difficult repair so cost $NZ800ish.

Minor electrical issues due to age: instrument bulbs blowing, dirty electric window switches etc.

General Comments:

Reasonably economical, varies 25-38 Miles Per Gallon depending on how it is driven.

Handles very well especially in slow tight corners and long fast corners (HICAS 4 wheel steering is excellent).

Well appointed interior. The only issue I have with it is the cabin space - obviously designed for small people.

The gear ratio spacings of the auto don't seem to fit the engine characteristics very well - it's either screaming it's head off or over-geared.

1991 Nissan Skyline GTR 2.6 twin turbo

Summary:

A super car bargain

Faults:

This car seems to be up of Nissan's normal high standards of reliability. No-thing's gone wrong in the 3.5 years I've owned it.

Clutches seem to last between 50k & 75k kilometers depending on how hard and how frequently you launch from a standing start.

I'm a Bridgestone tyres fan & my last set of S02 lasted about 25000k.

General Comments:

This car so capable that it's almost boring since it has no bad habits. That said I enjoy -

1/ Its amazing performance. 5 second to 100kph.

2/ The very direct steering, as good as any BMW I've driven.

3/ The instant throttle response in any gear from 2000 revs.

4/ Its great reliability

5/ The enduring fan club this car has. Kids from 8 years old to 50 stare at it in the street.

6/ It being such a performance bargain at $NZ40,000 to buy, $2,500 pa for servicing by Nissan (including tyres & clutches), and less than $NZ3,000 a year in depreciation it's a real bargain.

1991 Nissan Skyline gts-t, m-spec 2.0 turbo

Summary:

This car is very mean.. And it looks it as well

Faults:

The turbo was previously running at 15psi, so when I got the car the turbo was pretty much stuffed. So I got a new turbo installed under the warranty. The new turbo has a steel shaft rather than the normal ceramic one. Able to run at around 20psi.

General Comments:

This skyline is a beast. It has had the following modifiactions done to it.

1) Performance chip installed.

2) Variable boost gauge. Boost set to 14 psi.

3) Performance exhaust. Increased power by around 10 - 15 kw.

4) turbo timer and fuel mixture gauge.

5) boost gauge and water temperature gauge installed.

6) 17 inch low profile mags.

7) full GTR R-32 style body kit.

8) Estimated power is around the 200Kw mark :)

1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R 2.6 Litre twin turbo

Summary:

High performance, head-turner, and reliable, but costly

Faults:

Nothing as yet. Although I had to replace the brake pads.

General Comments:

Very good handling car, a real head turner. They could've did a bit more on the comfort side of things, but that doesn't worry me too much. Only thing I really worry about is parking/leaving it somewhere without being paranoid about anything happening to it.
