2002 Peugeot 307 XSE 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Good car few niggles

Faults:

Loss of Power on hot day after driving in excess of 100Km with antipollution fault displaying on the screen.

Sent to dealer whom rebooted the system only to have it return the following day when the car was picked up. (No explanation given for loss of power)

Car is still in service to fix the fault, but again no real attempt has been made to rectify initial loss of power.

General Comments:

Bought the car as previous car was becoming unreliable only to loose confidence in taking the car on long trips and worrying about the really poor performance of Peugeot Assist.

Was completely happy with my purchase initially. Engine was fine, felt powerful and handled well in all conditions. Interior is excellent, seats are very comfortable. Gearbox is quite good, but revs quite high in lower gears.

Currently under a cloud of suspicion for reliability.

I am not a peugeot 307 owner, but I purchased a 206 XT 16v yesterday. After getting home from the dealer the engine suddenly stopped, but started again by my attempt. But the real problem occurred when I parked it to my garage. My friend came and I wanted to show him the engine's sound. I attempted to start the engine, but no way. For 3 hours of trying I couldn't start it. Obviously after 3 hours it started finally. But today in the morning it started with an "antipollution fault" warning on the display and also a slight tremble.

I am pleased and satisfied with the performance. But if these kind of problems will continue I will be a very sad man.

2002 Peugeot 307 XSE 2.0

Summary:

Great 'All Rounder' of a car despite evident 'niggles'

Faults:

The anti pollution fault alert came on within one km of driving out of the dealer. It was rectified and then came on another 50km later. So far so good.

The Dealer had left wax 'blobs' and marks all over the car when delivered and tried to deny it was his problem.

Car does not start first time in hot weather.

It has door creaks noticeable when reversing out of driveways.

The radio 'face' was scratched when delivered, thus reception was very bad. Awaiting on a new head unit.

General Comments:

Although I have noticed a few teething problems, I must say that I have totally enjoyed driving the car. Its handling and looks are fantastic especially its distinguished styling. A ripper in silver!!

It sometimes tend to skip over potholes and uneven road surfaces around the city.

The driving position is absolutely a treat as the seats and armrests provide utmost comfort.

I seem to think that for Australian conditions and the amount of highway driving that I do, it does rev a little too high at speeds on 110 and 120 km/h. Definitely needs an extra gear like the Megane II will offer.

Overall, I think it has great equipment offerings and they are so user friendly such as auto sensing wipers (a great feature). Excellent value for money I thought.

2002 Peugeot 307 XS 1.6

Summary:

Best value luxury car on the market

Faults:

A slight rattle in the dash when on sealed but slightly rough country road.

General Comments:

I compared this car with all its available competitors and there is really no comparison. For example, the Honda Civic Hatch sells for the same price. If you are a person that appreciates comfort, style, classy looks and a superb finish - particularly in the paintwork, go for the Peugeot. The only area that Honda surpasses the 307 is in the 0-100 kmh field. So what? All you'll do is get to the next set of traffic lights 2 seconds earlier. I have read a few motoring magazine reviews on the cars lack of performance. I have come to the conclusion that these journalists are comparing this vehicle with some V6 or V8 engine. I have put the car through its power test and it came up trumps considering it is only a 1.6 engine. Driving up a very steep hill in 4th gear and having enough power to overtake a slower vehicle meets my requirements. This car is going to hurt sales of all its competitors. The interior is extremely comfortable and the ride is very smooth with little or no road noise. The CD system is terrific.
