2004 Renault Megane Sedan 2.0

Summary:

Reliable, safe, comfortable and nice to drive, makes owning my Renault a real pleasure!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

I am thrilled to be a driver of a Renault. I am 19, and this is my second car. The only reason I got it, was because my grandfather gave it to me before he passed away. He used to work at a Renault dealership, so he knew a lot about the car.

My car drives so well, the ride is smooth, and it has good power when you need it. The car gives me a real sense of security whilst driving, and I am confident that I will have no issues with it, and will own the car for a long time.

It is a very luxurious model; the interior is full tan leather, which gives it a nice classy feel. Another bonus on this car, is that from what I have been told and seen on the Internet, is that it gets a very high score with crash test ratings. Apparently it is one of the safest cars in its class.

To sum up my review. I feel very lucky to have such a lovely car to drive. Thank you for making such an amazing car for me Renault.

2002 Renault Megane Cabriolet petrol

Summary:

Great to drive

Faults:

Automatic transmission.

Car stopped on the highway - no real reason - then started two hours later.

Car regularly will not start. It is thought to be an immobiliser problem. I am told to take it to a Renault dealer - either 4 hours north, or 12 hours south. Transport trucks will not take it unless it starts. No one in Mackay will look at it. Motor turns, apparently the signal gets through to the plugs, but it won't fire.

General Comments:

The car is really nice to drive, and I don't want to part with it, however, I am to the point where I now leave the motor running as often as I can, so that at least I know it will go.

2005 Renault Megane Dynamique LX 2.0 Litre

Summary:

Woeful, and a waste of my hard earned money!

Faults:

Starter motor died two days after the three year warranty finished (89,000km).

Engine mounts required replacing at 70,000km.

Dash has severe rattles, especially around clock/CD/speedo dials.

Exhaust rattles.

Engine rattles.

Headlamps have had to be replaced on three occasions.

Parking lights have had to be replaced.

Airbag and seat belt lamps light up when driver's seat moved.

Brake discs (rotors) needed replacing at 80,000kms.

Brake pads required replacing at 45,000kms.

Engine regularly "hunts" for an idle.

Gearbox change from 1st gear to 2nd gear rough and thumpy.

Rubber covering on interior door handles/power window switching has come off.

Battery needed replacing after 60,000km.

General Comments:

Very disappointed. The Megane is reasonably comfortable but you never know when it is going to let you down.

The semi-automatic is questionably slow, both left in auto or as a manual.

Quite a heavy user in petrol - certainly couldn't call the Megane an economical car.

The rear hatch drips on you when it is or has been raining.

The plastics have worn around the seat belt cover on the turret and seats.

The passenger seat cover comes off when it isn't meant to.

I just drove a NZ new 2005 Megane 2.0 auto. We were looking to purchase it as it seemed good value and had great safety credentials. After the test drive I couldn't escape fast enough. This was hands down the nosiest, harshest post 2000 car I have ever experienced. I couldn't believe the racket it made. It was also sluggish and the interior materials were not wearing well. Some clever touches in the cabin and comfy seats, but seriously... how on earth did they manage to sell any of these new in NZ? Gross car.
