1988 SAAB 900 T16 M3 2.0 turbo 16v

Summary:

I love my classic SAABs... a great car, that's why I have 2 of them

Faults:

Power steering rack, seals began leaking. Replaced with a reconditioned unit

Lower ball joint beginning to wear.

Each of the above was an easy fix. I do all my own repairs and servicing. It is so easy on these SAABS.

Don't buy parts from dealers; get your parts from Parts for Saabs. Great value, and much cheaper than dealers.

General Comments:

Solid safe car, that is fun to drive and handles very well.

Not everyone's cup of tea; a little quirky, but that is why I love it.

I have 2 SAAB 900's; a 1988 turbo Aero and a 1993 non turbo Aero.

Both have proven themselves to be ultra reliable and very easy to maintain. Unfortunately most service/repairs centres see SAAB and charge exorbitant prices.

Currently looking for a good 900 cabriolet. A classic 900 of course. The NG900 was nowhere near as good as the classic 900.

1988 SAAB 900 GLE 2.0 Unleaded petrol, Non-turbo

Summary:

A classic piece of Swedish automotive technology :)

Faults:

I needed a new radiator within a couple of weeks of purchase. Thankfully, this was picked up by my fantastic mechanics when it went in for a service!

The headliner is sagging, which is a common fault with these cars.

My cruise control doesn't work. Not much of an issue as I don't do much highway cruising.

General Comments:

I have wanted a SAAB since I drove in a 900 Turbo when I was in High School. I figure I have the funds to run such a car, although, it really hasn't been that expensive to run thus far.

The interior is very comfortable, with those fabulous heated seats. I think it still looks good, even compared to modern car design.

The headliner is sagging which is a shame as it is quite noticeable. I will get this fixed when I have some spare cash.

My 900 was a one owner vehicle when I purchased it and because of it, the service history is complete and the car has been kept in fantastic order. A very good pickup for what I paid for it ($2800 AUD)!

My only real gripe with the car is the fact that it only has a 3sp automatic. Doing 110kms on the highway at 3000 revs is a bit much. It just sucks down fuel.. even in city driving.

But, I guess it is the price you pay for a car that delivers you so much pleasure and doesn't cost much else to run!
