1984 Toyota Corolla CS 1.3

Summary:

Bomb proof... budget motoring at it's finest

Faults:

Practically none... this car is bomb proof.

Replaced drivers seat approx 20,000 km ago due to sagging.

Replaced drivers window rail (inside door cavity) as it had rusted, approx 50,000 km ago.

Had electrics fixed about 50,000km ago. Cost about $100-.

Other than that just routine servicing...

General Comments:

This car has been through thick and thin with me and has been infallible. Was used for a short time as a courier car (by me) and never missed a beat. I now service it about once a year and it still putts along right as reign, in fact it is still used to pull my motorbike trailer 100km to the track and back once a month.

Gets by on the smell of an oily rag and services are cheap.

If you can find a good example of one of these second hand you can't go wrong. Get it!!!

1984 Toyota Corolla FX-GT 4A-GE 1.6 twin Cam

Summary:

Cheapest, Most reliable, economical, high performance car

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Most reliable car I have ever owned. Done a few modifications to the engine and now the old girl rips V8's to shreds, simply because you can redline the engine with no major concern (as long as you keep the oil-level full.

Go buy one NOW, and don't worry about how many KM's it's done... THEY LAST FOREVER!

1984 Toyota Corolla CS 1.5 petrol

Summary:

The most reliable car you could buy for under $10 000

Faults:

Head gasket blew at 260 000km. So whilst repairing this I also replaced the rings.

General Comments:

I bought this car for $500 two and half years ago in that time I have traveled over 60 000 km in my little old corolla. It may not be the prettiest car on the road, but in my opinion it is the finest, as when I have needed the corolla it has never let me down.

1984 Toyota Corolla DX 1.3 carb

Faults:

The seats were ripped when I first got it. The windshield started leaking a few weeks ago and just abit of rust, no bigger than half a five cent piece near the petrol cap and a bit shocking on cold start ups (it has a manual choke) apart from that nothing else has gone wrong.

General Comments:

It's a good little car picked it up for $1000 and it was in mint condition because an elderly lady owned it and looked after it. It's fairly cheap to run, only $40 to fill the tank from empty, and lasts around 400-500kms depends on how you drive it. It handles quite good, not much body roll through corners, its not the fastest car, but its not bad for a 1.3 carb.

1984 Toyota Corolla CS 1.3 Hi-Cam 4k-C

Summary:

Economical and Nice To Drive

Faults:

The head gasket failed at 275,000.

The Starter has failed twice (every 100,000 basically)

The Alternator has failed twice (again every 100,000)

The diff has failed once at 160,000.

Requires wheel alignments all too often.

The Dash Plastics have become unusually brittle.

General Comments:

The car takes a hell of a lot of stick, you can flog it harder and harder and it just keeps on going.

It doesn't go fast by any stretch of the imagination, but holds a nice line through corners and is easy to drive and easy on fuel.

1984 Toyota Corolla FX GT 1.6 DOHC

Summary:

A high performance machine that don't like to be driven slowly

Faults:

When I first brought the car the big end bearing went.

I had the engine rebuilt with the super charged parts for more strength.

Three years later I was racing a Subaru and I blew the crank shaft again.

I have now put a blue top 4-age engine in it with a super charged gear box.

General Comments:

There very very light in the in back so they get into drifts easy and don't like to come out straight away.

They do there big end bearing easily.

The shocks don't last long when your getting air born all the time.

Yeah I have a 86 Fx-gt.

My engine knocks more loudly than a jumbo 747 jet liner, but who cares.

It has 195.000km on the clock.

Myself,my brother and countless other people have try ed to break it, but no luck although rest assured this will happen one day as I'm not a quitter.

It has more rust in the front guard than empty beer cans on my floor, but they will be used to bung that hole up.

The engine has seen the rev limiter more times than should be possible, but that is proof to the unbreakable nature of these engines.

Oh yeah 1.6 liter twin cam fuel injected 4age and the gearbox CV joints and all the drive train is just as hard to make pooh out.
