1988 Toyota Corolla AE82 Twin Cam 1.6L Twin Cam 16v

Summary:

A Classic sports car for a good price!

Faults:

Nothing wrong with the car yet. Only things are that the dizzy is leaking, and there is a power steering pump leak (small).

Some rust on the A Pillar and in the door panels, but nothing major.

General Comments:

This car is a really good car for the beginner (manual) and has heaps of get up and go. For its engine size and capacity, you can't go wrong and with a 7750 rpm red line, why not get one! they are reliable (if taken care of) and will keep on driving!

Really happy with the car. Can suprise other cars of similar engine size, and newer too.

1988 Toyota Corolla Twincam 1.6 Supercharged

Summary:

Cheap preformance

Faults:

Fuel sender failed, exhaust needed to be replaced, front tyres to ware out quick and rust around windscreen was repaired.

General Comments:

Pretty quick car for a 1600 supercharged corolla, not only does it accelerate quick, but it handles very good too! It looks like any other granny 5door hatchback with a 14second pass on the 1/4 mile.

1988 Toyota Corolla CS 1.6

Summary:

I treat it like family, it is well looked after.

Faults:

Blew the motor up racing another corolla, needed a new clutch at 315,600km, and the radiator just went so its being fixed. other than that nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

Excellent on fuel a tank will last me 3 weeks and that's driving every day. It has got the power behind it, I noticed this when I had the sports exhaust put on it. It sounds great, and with this amount of kilometres on the clock the air conditioner really works brilliantly. This car really blew my mind when I took ownership of it. It's my baby.

There are some that would consider a blown-up engine to be a fairly significant failure. If you treat it like one of the family, hopefully you don't beat your girlfriend. On the other hand, it's a testimonial to this car that it has survived 315,000 kms in your hands.

1988 Toyota Corolla Twin Cam 16 1.6 twin cam

Summary:

Little beast

Faults:

Not much really, the starter motor has played up a few times. There are a couple of spots of rust, in the door sills and rear quarter (above rear wheel). Apart from that nothing major.

General Comments:

This is one of the better handling cars I've ever driven, feels as though its glued to the road in comparison to some other cars I have driven. Goes extremely well for a 1.6L, has beater the likes of AU Falcon's, Mirage's, Celica's and V6 Camry's.

Hi there, regarding your starter motor problems, I would say it is a good chance that it is heat soak from the starter being wedged under the exhaust pipe, apparently it is a pretty common problem. It made my corolla go a little spastic at times too.

1988 Toyota Corolla GL 1.6

Summary:

Extremely reliable motoring with pep at an affordable price

Faults:

Rust in the boot.

Shocks have required replacement.

This car requires 95 octane or higher petrol which makes it a little more expensive to run than some other similar vehicles.

General Comments:

Quick for a small 1.6 liter engine due to the 16 valve double overhead cam configuration.

Very easy to maintain as the engine has hydraulic lifters and the distributer is electronic so the engine is always in tune.

Very reliable, starts every time I turn the key.

No air conditioning or power steering so it's a little light on the luxury features, although I believe they were both options when purchasing new.

1988 Toyota Corolla SR5 1.6 4AFE

Summary:

Cheap 4wd power

Faults:

Nothing much has gone wrong with the car, just keep is serviced and it will live for ever!

General Comments:

This car is pretty good for the price I paid which was $3300AUD with Road worthy condition and reg. The engine is also very strong and can keep up with most new cars in it class.

Has some room, but not as big as most wagons then again it is the same size as a corolla sedan or lancer sedan.

As a added bonus it is a 4wd which makes it a bit more safe. In addition the 4afe engine can be swapped over for a 4age 20v.
