1969 Volkswagen Beetle 1.5

Summary:

A lovable device with loads of character

Faults:

Indicators do not self-cancel.

Small transmission oil leak.

Lower compression on #3 cylinder.

Drivers seat twisted.

Some surface rust.

Heater no longer working.

General Comments:

Although this car is very, very slow it has a great torque curve and just chugs up hills without a worry. It has been slightly lowered and has no difficulty out-handling many newer cars. Brakes (disc/drum) are effective, and fuel economy is excellent provided the gadget is driven with respect. Although I'd prefer a manual, the stick shift auto doesn't stress the engine much. The current 1500 has done over 40,000 miles without a single hiccup.

Not a car for the family, but a brilliant little daily driver I can't wait to restore! My only complaint would be the severe lack of luggage space up front!

1969 Volkswagen Beetle 1500 Deluxe 1.5 Flat 4 cylinder.

Summary:

Better-built small cars don't yet exist!

Faults:

Nothing, except 2 fan belts, 4 batteries and a broken windscreen.

I kept up the servicing on the car, so it just soldiered on forever.

General Comments:

If there is an economy car with a standard of build and finish better than a Beetle, I probably can't afford to buy it.

It looked after my motoring needs better than I could have ever expected.

Always buy one with a decent service history.

1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 1.3 4 cylinder boxer

Summary:

A true classic car

Faults:

Motor had 1600cc big bore kit - cooked itself one day, became very low in compression - engine replaced with 1600cc industrial motor.

Jumps out of second gear.

Rust in the floor pan.

Indicators flasher unit had to be replaced.

Rear window shattered for no apparent reason one morning - x file's kinda stuff.

All the seal's in the body are buggered, but you have to remember they are nearly 37 years old.

6 volt head lights are useless may as well drive by candle light.

General Comments:

This is your typical old beatle it had about 15 owners and it most likey there is nothing on the car that has not been tampered with.

Real skill needed to keep this car on the road on a windy day, it's all over the show. - Fittment of some wide wheels improved it's handling.

Parts are getting harder and harder to get.

This car is slow, very slow 0 -100 kph in about 30 seconds.

Chicks love these little cars and they have endless appeal and can go almost anywhere with a good set of grippy tires.
