1994 Audi A6 Avant 2.8 petrol
Solid, comfortable, reasonably powerful
The rubber in one of the steering joints wore out (car would shake on a curve at 120+ km/h).
Mass air flow sensor would sometimes malfunction (car would occasionally stall when idling).
Some connecting hoses have started to leak, and have needed replacing.
The maintenance costs are quite high - things start to go wrong at about 15 years, and parts are quite expensive, though I've never had problems getting hold of them.
Apart from that, the car runs very smoothly. Engine noise is barely audible, especially on motorways. It is very comfortable for long distances.
It's not a nippy car, but once cruising, it has plenty of power in the lower-mid rev region (2,500-4,000), and you usually get some comfortable acceleration out of it without having to change down gears.
Even despite its age, the car is very reliable. It has so far not refused to start for anything more than a worn-out battery.
In the city, it feels like you're driving a tank - you have to be really careful when trying to park it.
Overall, though I'm very pleased with it. Short distances are fine, and it does long distances very well. It certainly doesn't feel like it's sixteen years old yet.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
