1990 BMW 3 Series 320i convertible 2.0 injection 6 cylinder

Summary:

Nice looking, reliable, comfy convertible

Faults:

Normal wearing like rubbers, belts, tires.

Every 3 years have the "cat-eye" front-lights replaced due to rusty reflectors.

Defective gas pump replaced. was not needed because is proved to be the relais.

Driver's bucket-seat at the left side re-clothed, due to wear.

Seemes to be a general problem, also with the leather seats.

General Comments:

This was by far the most reliable car I have ever owned.

As I live close to the German border I noticed that this E30 is still the most driven convertible in Germany.

Most of them having more than 200000km on the clocks.

325i are usually blown up by high speed driving youngsters.

My wife missed the powered top, but for me the manual top is still the fastest way to close when suddenly rain starts pouring.

1993 BMW 3 Series 316i 1.6 injection

Summary:

Nice as a first BMW

Faults:

Quality of interior could be better.

Electric windows are really cheaply made.

The noise could be reduced too.

General Comments:

Strong car, and really reliable.

The engine never dies.

It's a good choice between economy and power since the engine is a little too weak for that car.

Very low on gas.

I can detail your phrase about fuel consumption.

After having driven a diesel car for many years, this car surprised me for it's moderate fuel consumption.

It is a heavy car and I could drive it as a diesel, which means that I you don't see me driving at more than 3100 rpm; I avoid stopping and speeding.

Driving long distances at an average of 90 km per hour on French highways, the car consumed 1 liter every 17 kilometers, measured at the fuel station.

Today, driving more on the short track, 1 liter every 14.25 kilometers, measured at the fuel station.

In addition to your comment I appreciate its luxury. It definitely needs a good music player. You may forget that you are driving a car. It is more like being in music and driving has changed from getting there asap into a gentle way to pass time.

Enjoy!

1989 BMW 3 Series 316i Coupe 1.6i

Summary:

A nice looking, cheap car

Faults:

Motronic went crazy after a radio installation, engine sounded not nice at all :-(, after a reset of the motronic (=20sec job :-) ) car ran fine again.

General Comments:

Nice comfortable car, fuel consumption 9-10 liters/100km, goes very well, but the handling is not as great as on my previous car, a Opel Kadett C Coupe, driver feedback isn't that good, thus not sporty, (What the heck is this car's weight distribution???, and how much does it change when cornering?/craking??). In this field my previous car was a lot better, but counting everything, this one offers the better ride, go for it!!! It's cheap and fun!!
