1987 Peugeot 309 GR 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Very cheap and fast car

Faults:

Starter-engine malfunctions, fixed with replacement of only 1 new wire (rust)

5th gear kept on switching to neutral automatically once in a while for a few months, until it finally broke down and was unable to switch to ANY gear. Fixed quite cheaply with secondhand engine and swift-parts.

Under-pressure cable blew off.

A few electrical malfunctions like; interior lights, horn,...

Noisy rear-suspension, needs replacement.

General Comments:

Excellent first car, will be my favourite last car too.

Believe it or not, but mine goes from 0 to 50MPH in 6 sec. in 2nd gear only (6500 RPM)!!! Max speed of 108MPH at 5500 RPM!

Incredible performance and acceleration for a small 1.3 engine (no modifications, original parts) and 15 year-old car.

Leaves numerous modern and much more powerful cars wondering shortly.

Lots of fun, loves a good under-steering and then to go off like a rocket.

Bombproof, the more abuse the better it seems to perform.

Car "talks" to you with noises, and tells exactly what he is doing.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Hello! My 309 1.3 isn't nearly as fast as yours. Come on, be honest - what mods have you done to it?

I think my clutch may have started slipping though...
