1999 Renault Espace

Summary:

Expensive fun

Faults:

High consumption (13 L / 100 km)

Gear synchronisation broke at 140000 km (high cost)

Have been told that cardan has to be replaced (high costs!)

1st gear NEVER worked properly (car stalls when not starting very carefully) (PS: Yes, with other cars I managed not to stall :-) )

General Comments:

Easy to drive car, which is fun to drive.

We used it often as a camper, as the back is big and great and flat, perfect to sleep in with 2 persons (if not giants, quod non).

Great when driving quickly: overtaking with 120 km / h. is easy!

Agree with all the negative and positive comments:

GREAT fun for a large family, can fit three bicycles in rear and two people! Sexy, cool appearances, BUT so expensive:

Clutch master cylinder twice, timing belt (£1200 of damage/repairs), dodgy alarm, fuel sender unit -all repairs costing an arm and a leg. Should I switch to a Ford Galaxy?

1993 Renault Espace RN 2.1 turbo diesel

Faults:

Wheel alignment problems, short circuit causing complete electrical system to be replaced, poor inside material quality (carpet).

General Comments:

I love this car because of it's driving properties and the Mono-volume concept. Expensive versus quality.

Good to excellent 2.1 turbo diesel engine. Poor finishing. Being a DuPont employee, I had my fellow employees refinish the car using our water-borne Cromax* quality. After 2 years this finish proved to be much superior in gloss, appearance and chip-resistance versus the original finish (supplier unknown).

The quality of the carpet and other materials inside does not meet the price of the vehicle.

Driving this car everyday is somewhat as having vacation every day, but this is a very subjective judgement.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
