2008 Toyota Avensis Wagon Luna 2.0 D-4D

Summary:

Solid, reliable, and oh so comfortable..

Faults:

Nothing yet... I have a lot of faith in the Toyota reliability.

General Comments:

Where to begin...

This car has everything a customer like me wants.

Bags of space, nice electronic things to play with,...

My eye fell on this car while driving my old one. It always struck me as a stylish car, especially the ones in black.

At this point I was starting to get some niggles with the old car. Nothing major but enough to annoy me.

Wanting to choose this time rather with my head than my heart, it all came down to this car.

Agreed, this car won't let you tear up the city streets and leave melting rubber on the tarmac... but what it does (and it does it very well) is that this car puts you in a protective shell full of comfort. I feel that this car will protect my loved ones while in the car. The doors themselves close with a thunk, much like a vault.

If you want a stylish car which offer a maximum of protection and great reliability.. look no further. It doesn't get much better than this. For better look in the direction of Lexus.

In short I love it.

2003 Toyota Avensis Break 2.0 D4D

Summary:

Reliable, but with some disturbing features

Faults:

One of the Headlights had to be replaced twice already, the other once. They cannot be replaced by the driver, which makes the repair quite expensive.

General Comments:

This car is very safe, and the engine is reliable.

Fuel consumption is not as low as advertised, or as indicated on the display, but remains acceptable for such a heavy car (6,5 liters/100km highway).

Acceleration in the lowest two gears is slow. Power becomes only available at relatively high rpm.

I've just recently bought a used 2003 53 reg Avensis T4 and in the space of 2 months had both headlights replaced, a lock needed replacing on a back door, it wouldn't open from the inside, paint has flaked off the tailgate, the interior trim creaks when going over bumps, all four brake disc's have had to be skimmed.

The most disturbing thing about this car is the roof, minute stone chips? have turned into areas of rust. These are all over the roof area, even where the roof slopes away at the back.

I have owned Toyota's for over 25 years and the last one I owned for 8 years without a sign of rust.

The car at first glance appears to be a much better car than the one I replaced, but after 2 months I wish I had kept the old one.

1998 Toyota Avensis Linea Sol 2.0 TD

Summary:

A very good car

Faults:

The cooling system lost water at 185 000km. This appeared to be a bad cylinder-head by a design fault of Toyota. Although it was well beyond warranty it was replaced by my dealer free of charge except for gaskets and working hours.

Brake disks were replaced under warranty at 95000km.

General Comments:

I still love its acceleration in fifth gear.

Although I drive fast it still runs on about 7.6l/100k.

The distance to my work is 70km, so I drive my Avensis every day for at least 140km and it never failed on me. Still my first battery and first exhaust-system.

Very comfortable, but one small quirk: it's possible to burn your feet while freezing your face with the air-co.
