2000 Opel Astra Sport 2.0 DTi turbo diesel

Summary:

Lively and economical hatchback!

Faults:

The only thing that gone wrong was the diesel injection pump. It is very sensitive to fuel. Here in Bulgaria the diesel is far from best quality. I would recommend to everybody who buys the car to fill every time 150 grams of motorcycle oil into full tank of diesel for better lubrication of the pump.

General Comments:

My car is a 3dr hatchback, and has 101 HP and 230Nm torque, which is pretty good for a car of that class. It accelerates quick, and overtaking is an easy job.

The handling is fantastic, mine has the sport suspension and it loves corners. However, its ride is not comfortable. The suspension is solidly built and reliable though.

The noise inside coming from the engine is a bit higher on lower revs compared to other cars in this class, but when it passes 1700 rpm, it becomes pretty good and sporty.

The car is very economical; the fuel consumption in the city is between 7 and 8 liters, and on a highway with 100km/h, it drops to 4.8 to 5 liters.

All in all, I like the car very much. It has great exterior, and it's OK inside too with the Recaro sport seats.

The thing that I don't like are the plastics inside, because when it's cold, they are cracking and making me nervous.

2002 Opel Astra G 1.4 16 valve petrol

Summary:

Good city car, mileage is perfect

Faults:

Had to replace the two front shock absorbers as the original ones were too soft.

Two headlamps went out.

General Comments:

The car is as quick cornering as my 1991 VW Corrado G60, due to very low kerb weight; approximately 980 kilos.

A bit uncomfortable front seats. Other than that, whether you believe it or not - it has been the best car, as nothing went wrong.

How was the mileage? I'm doing a school project, and need to calculate how much it will cost me to drive it, and stuff like that.

2000 Opel Astra Sport 2.0 DTI (Y20DTH) turbo diesel

Summary:

Average, economical car with good exterior and good handling!

Faults:

When I got the car it was running perfect.

Suddenly after 7000 kilometers, the electronic control module of the fuel pump (Bosch vp44) broke down. As I understood later, this is a very common problem with these pumps. An electrician repaired the ECM for 150 euros and told me I won't have problems anymore.

The dashboard squeaks a lot!

I didn't need to fill up with oil after 10000km. I am writing this because I saw in many magazines that 2.0dti engines burn oil.

General Comments:

The car handles very well. The interior is qualitative. It looks like new. Only the steering wheel is made of leather and has some spots on it.

Seats are hard, but comfy.

The suspension on mine is standard, and it's too hard.

The engine is loud at low RPM, but economical. I can pass 100km in the city with about 7 to 8 liters. On the highway with 100 - 110 km/h it burns around 5 liters. 130-140 km/h 6 to 6,5 l.

The car runs perfect between 1900 and 3500 rpm.

For me a good advantage is that the engine uses a chain.

Overall it is a very good looking car (mine is 2/3 door version), economical and well made for the money one pays for it.

1997 Opel Astra club 1.4 16v

Summary:

Cheap and reliable car

Faults:

I had problems with the stop light lamps. Hopefully they are very cheap.

Also I had problems with my cooling system. All liquids were gone from somewhere. Anyway after 100 bucks and plenty of wasted time everything became normal.

General Comments:

The exterior is very good. Also after 1995 the quality of the all Astra's grew up. Interior is very well done. The quality of the material is good. The car isn't very spacious, but at least the boot is huge.

The engine of my Astra is 1.4 16v and have enough power to drive normally. Its very economic, but unfortunately is too loud. I strongly recommend you the 1.6l 16v.

1992 Opel Astra GL 1.4 petrol

Summary:

High performance at low cost

Faults:

Strange noise from the catalyst, but really makes driving fun even with out a special silencer.

Gas pumps are a disadvantage leading to problems some cold mornings.

General Comments:

My previous car was more powerful, but did well only in hot starts - this Opel has really fine acceleration.

The engine is in few words weak, but in a city conditions where you just can't drive with more than 100 kph - it is perfect.
