1998 Opel Vectra B 1.6 8v

Summary:

Great car, family and sporty in one

Faults:

I had no major problem with this car. Only one winter my air conditioning went off.

Some electric problems with the ventilation.

EGR valve needed to be changed 175000 km.

Now I have got some problems with the front shock absorbers.

General Comments:

It is really great car, looking good (especially side mirrors, front mask, etc).

Engine is not the strongest, but still it is running 160 km/h without any problem.

Cabin is little bit noisy, you can hear the engine running.

Comfort inside is perfect, all indicators are in front of you, easy to recognize.

I could recommend this car to everyone.

2001 Opel Vectra CDX 2.0 DTi

Summary:

Worst quality of all German cars

Faults:

Air conditioning compressor was gone soon after I purchased this car. Really expensive to repair, it is still not fixed.

Front seats are really bad! Creaking every time I move on it. Dealer tried twice to fix that, with no results.

There are lines missing lately on the multifunction display.

The radiator fan switch got stuck several times, discharged the battery over night. And the dealer? Changed the battery instead of trying to find the real problem.

Injectors rubber sealing were gone after 100.000km. Car just could not start. Dealer explanation was that it is a common problem. Repair cost were almost 600 euros.

Driver's doors rumble at higher speeds, over 130 km/h. Nobody knows why.

Front brake discs were changed couple of times due to quick wearing.

Recently some rubber fits (I don't know really what is that) on the rear axle must be changed, altogether with shock absorbers. It makes a bad noises in the rear part of the car.

General Comments:

There's enough space in the cabin. The quality of panels in the boot is however poor, they will sag down after a while loading it a bit.

The car is comfortable for long distances driven on highways. Cruise control makes it even better on the highway.

It is quiet, even driving at higher speeds, like 180 km/h.

Automatic air conditioning is good enough when it works.

Performance of the turbo diesel in city-traffic drive-aways is bad, once driven on highway, it gets much better.

The "lever" for adjusting the steering wheel's height is really state-of-the-art design.
