1991 Toyota Corolla AE92 1.6 4A-FE

Summary:

One of the most reliable cars ever built!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Gives an extremely reliable feel. Compared to my Opel Kadett, which had the same mileage and many faults, this car is rock solid and drives like a modern car, even though it is 27 years old. It was bought based on hours and hours of internet research. The engine does not use oil and should last well beyond 500000 km based on my research. Contrary to many other engines, the timing belt ONLY drives the cams and NOT the water pump or any other auxiliary equipment.

The Corolla was bought completely rust free in 2016, and I gave it a complete cavity and underbody treatment to ensure that it will last the next 20-30 years, and pass inspections without any problems.

Negative: The inside of the car is not very large. If four large persons sit in the car, it becomes very cramped with very little leg space.

2003 Toyota Corolla Verso Sol 2.0 diesel

Summary:

Superb!!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong at all - this car is simply superb! A great improovement over my old Alfa 156.

General Comments:

The engine is a bit noisy at higher speeds (130km/h +), but still acceptable. Fuel economy is good, with the car regularly doing 17km/l, when driving sensible. The cabin is great, the finish is really good and all buttons are nice to work. The only drawback compared to my old Alfa 156, is the gear change. This is less than good, seems "notchy" and noisy. However, it seems sturdy enough, and I'm getting used to it now.

Can you give some details about comfort on long journeys and the smoothness of the ride over choppy roads? Thanks.

1986 Toyota Corolla DX 1.3

Summary:

Wonderful first car

Faults:

As far as reliability goes, absolutely nothing. The only time it was in the shop for something more than a tune up was when I drove it into another car. Which was completely my own fault.

General Comments:

1.3 engine and automatic transmission is perhaps not the best choice, but it was cheap, and incredibly comfortable to drive around town in. It did however lack some power and perhaps a higher gear when on the freeway, the noise was too much at speeds over 130 km/h.

But when all that is said, I wouldn't hesitate one second to buy a Toyota again, the reliability and ease of owning it is just amazing. Nothing ever went wrong with the car and it always starts. Wondeful first car.

1990 Toyota Corolla XL 1.3

Summary:

Quick economic car

Faults:

The front brakes is worn down a little to fast.

It uses to much oil because of the piston rings.

Keeps on blowing the light bulbs in the dashboard.

General Comments:

It has an excellent economy. Cheap insurance and taxes.

Runs 13-14 Kilometers pr Liter gasoline with normal driving.

The engine is very hard working and has more power than expected from a 1.3 with carburetor.
