1997 Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDI

Summary:

Elegance, quality, safety, comfort and reliability!

Faults:

Underpowered since buying (Never really figured out why). Top-speed was 160km/h (100mph).

Nothing else really.

General Comments:

In 110000km (70000miles), all I have done to this car has been regular oil change, belt change once and front brake-piece-change once. So either I've been very lucky or this truly is an extremely reliable car.

Diesel consumption has been around 6l/100km (40mpg).

I spent the last Christmas in northern Finland and we had about -35C (-31C) for two weeks there and the engine started every time although it is an import-car from Germany and doesn't have winter-accessories.

Finally, my Audi was crashed by another car to my right side between the doors at 80km/h (50mph). Looked like it was hit at 30km/h because the car survived so well, passengers too.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

You complain about your Audi A4 being underpowered, but if it's a turbo diesel you can tune it up for between 500 and 800 euros. All it needs is a ECU remap and you'll get considerably more BHP and particularly a lot more torque.
