1999 Seat Ibiza SE 1.6

Summary:

The only sensible choice

Faults:

Rear window wiper water pipe's plastic corner-piece broken by ice near the driver's side tail light.

General Comments:

This car beats many more expensive, same sized competitors.

Very strong down punch makes the 1.6 engine enjoyable to drive with no need for revving.

Rear view mirror too low for tall drivers, it blocks the view a little to "two o'clock".

2000 Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Best performance car out there in this price range

Faults:

The ABS box and cabling got water in thus the whole car didn't work. Brakes, traction control, gas pedal.. etc. The problem was traced to faulty parts and they are now changed. The dealer was very helpful on offered me stuff and a free temporary car for the duration of the service. No problems since.

For the record: the 206 GTi was a pain in the butt all the time I had it, and the dealer was not helpful at all. I drove 30000 km with the 206, had it for 6 months.

General Comments:

Great car as a basis for a tuning project, engine can give close to 300 hp with a turbo change etc. 200 hp quite painlessly.

Torque steer is massive and steering a little too soft for a car of this type, but not a big concern, fixable.

Suspension also a little too soft, but a very good compromise on performance and comfort.

Have driven all the cars on this price range and I can say the Cupra is the best performance car for the money.

Could use 200hp under the hood, but as aimed for a larger public (consumption), 160 hp is enough.

1987 Seat Ibiza GL 2D 1.5l

Faults:

Some minor rust problems.

General Comments:

A great car, my car is tuned up a bit and it goes 0-100km/h in 8.8 seconds... I've had no real problems with the car, and I've driven 158000 kilometres with it. So beat that.

1998 Seat Ibiza SE 1.6

Faults:

Speedo and the rpm meter doesn't always work so well under certain circumstances (meaning when it is really cold weather, under 10 degrees below zero celsius).

General Comments:

Nice car, priceworthy, same as VW Polo but 20,000 FIM cheaper.
