2000 Volkswagen Polo Pack Clim 1.4 16v

Summary:

A car with problems that seem irreparable

Faults:

- Gear box is almost impossible to use, it looks like you will break everything when you want to use the first gear.

- Clutch became really "hard" and needed to be changed at 88000 km.

- Gear box leaks oil.

- One day, EPC light and CHECK lights came on. I took my Polo back to the VW dealer. They changed randomly two sensors, and broke the box under the car radio. 5 days later, the car was unable to move from a red light, and CHECK light come again... The engine was losing power suddenly, I don't know why because I brought back the car to the VW dealer, definitely (it was still covered by the warranty)

General Comments:

A very nice looking car with a high level of equipment, but ruined by a poor reliability.

My advice: avoid this car. I lost a lot of money and time because of it. Not to mention the dangerousness of the car when the engine starts to lose power while you're on a main road with huge traffic..

Really disappointed by VW.

1996 Volkswagen Polo Clim 1.4

Summary:

Quite expensive to maintain, but I loved it

Faults:

The car has been extremely reliable.

General Comments:

This car was seriously built, fast (compared to the Renault 5) stable, silent...

The incredible fact is that this seriously built car was quite difficult to drive. Until I understood how to drive it.

Then, I couldn't drive it another way but sliding it.

I had much fun with it.

This car was fun to drive, fun to look at (nice flash green color).

Was lovely, indeed.

Maintenance was quite expensive though.

1991 Volkswagen Polo Break Bel Air 1.0 liters

Summary:

Little, reliable, durable and great fun car

Faults:

None, this was a wonderful car. Very reliable, very durable, well built, it was very tight. It never developed noises or other problems.

General Comments:

This was a very enjoyable car. It had a soft top operated by an electric motor with a button on the dashboard. This was standard equipment for this Bel-Air model, but the mechanics where the most modest ones from the range: a 1.0 liters engine and a 4 gears manual transmission. Anyway, the engine was quite peppy for ´the size and absolutely capable for this car. This car was really nice and cheerful. I have had after this car BMW´s and Mercedes, mostly, but this one I will never forget.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
