2005 Fiat Idea Active 1.4 16V
Summary:
Not a bad MPV. Relatively simple and easy to maintain
Faults:
The idle is somewhat unstable, frequently caused by dirt accumulated in the throttle body/intake, which causes the revolutions to rise and fall.
The car loses power and feels somewhat sluggish, especially when loaded.
Failures in the phase sensor (camshaft) and speed sensor, causing difficult starts or fuel cutoffs.
The Fire 1.4 engine has heat-sensitive piston rings, which can lead to higher oil consumption than expected.
General Comments:
For a relatively small MPV, the car is surprisingly spacious inside. The first impression you get when you get in is that it's a tall car, a bit taller than average. This isn't a problem for me, but it might be a little uncomfortable for shorter people, though not too much.
I was looking for a family MPV for four people (it can fit five or even more) to replace my old Corsa, and between the Meriva and the Fusion, I decided on the Idea, which at the time was only slightly more expensive than the Fusion, but cheaper than an Ignis or a Meriva.
I must say that the car, while not spectacular, met my expectations.
The quality of the plastics isn't bad (which is unusual for a Fiat). In over 10 years, nothing has worn out, and it also has all the features of a higher-end car. It handles very well in the city and you can park it just as easily anywhere as a smaller car. On the highway, and with some weight, it loses power, but nothing out of the ordinary; overtaking will just be a little more difficult.
The engine is good and quite reliable, despite some occasional oil leaks, but it's perfectly adequate for this car. As for fuel consumption, it's around 6 liters per 100 km, which I don't find high, considering it's a petrol engine in a minivan. However, it will depend a lot on driving style. On the highway at a steady 120 km/h, it consumes considerably less and feels comfortable.
The car's design, at least to my taste, isn't bad. Keep in mind that we're talking about an MPV from the mid-2000s; cars of that type were all more or less the same.
It's a car you can get a lot of use out of; it won't give you any major headaches.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
