1987 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 1.9

Summary:

Maybe not the fastest car, but must be one of the best cars ever made in fun for money value ever

Faults:

There was a mysterious, minor but annoying electrical problem (misfire) nobody could solve.

General Comments:

This is a real fun car, really chuckeable and nippy.

The engine had good torque from the lower revs, but ultimately slim on power compared to other hot hatches, mainly 16vs, though.

The reliability was amazing. I owned the car for over 12 years and over 100.000km and never had anything really major wrong with it. This was an extreme and welcome contrast to my previous car.

This was my first Peugeot, my next car was a Peugeot and the one after will be another Peugeot.

2x heating fan broken fixing unit from lower bearing.

1x heating warm water comes into the car and burns my leg.

2x broken key.

Corrosion around rear window.

Water comes inside the baggage room.

Handbrake lines both broken.

Lost oil everywhere from motor.

1x left and right transmission kardan.

2nd gear not usable when motor cold.

Today lost the vacuum for the brake system. Vacuum pump broke inside fixed already with welding.

General Comments:

Peugeot builds with Mercedes the best diesel engines. They were the pioneers. And now I will drive 1.000.000 KM with this car, the engine has never been checked for 10 years. Only changing the oil. I need 4.5 litres diesel for 100km!! With one full tank I reach apprx. 1080km.

I will write the next letter when I reach the million kilometres.
